Are you considering a career in second level teaching? Have you just completed your Leaving Certificate but did not acquire the points to get into a teaching course?

North Connaught College are delighted to engage with another educational institute within Sligo, St. Angela’s College. The Access to Post-Primary teaching (APT) will create a great opportunity for learners at NCC.

This is a pilot project which provides a direct entry route to initial teacher education from further education. This partnership will allow students from the childcare programmes Level 5 and Level 6 not only the opportunity to pursue a career in second level teaching in the areas of Home Economics, Biology, Religious Education and Irish, but also the invaluable experience of taking part in Inreach and Outreach activities which are a unique feature of the ATP project.

North Connaught College as part of MSL ETB provides within its mission statement a vision where each individual is supported, respected as unique and where every effort is made to develop knowledge and skills appropriate to their needs. With this in mind NCC have a very strong and dedicated team including many supports such as career guidance and student/learner support. They offer a variety of courses; from Back to Education Initiative (BTEI), to Level 5 and Level 6 courses in Beauty, Childcare, Nursing, Healthcare, Administration, Security and Warehousing, eBusiness, Community Development, Health Service and Tourism and Retail. There are still places available on many of our courses.

They also have a very strong and active evening course programme facilitating amongst others those people who are engaged in employment yet want to upskill. The college has and continues to promote a strong link with the community, not only in the evening courses but also making the facility available for community groups near and far.

“We are excited and grateful for the opportunity. And we look forward to sharing this experience,” said James Hardiman, Principal of NCC.
