GALWAY MINOR HURLERS
Congratulations to Paraic and Loretto Neary of Charlestown Road, Tubbercurry whose grandson Seán Neary had the honour of being Captain of the Galway Minor Hurling team that won the all-Ireland hurling Championshop in Croke Park last week. Seán played a pivotal role at centre back and had the honour of accepting the Cup on behalf of his team and county. His dad Anthony was a vital cog in the Tubbercurry football teams of the 1980s and 90’s as was his uncle Philip.
The contribution of Tubbercurry natives to Galway GAA in recent years has been significant as sons of other Tubbercurry people including Ollie Wynne, Bridie Killoran and Ann Hannigan have all gone on to win at the Highest level in the jersey of Galway. Tubbercurry loss – Galway gain.
DIAMOND JUBILEE
As part of their Diamond Wedding Anniversary Tom and Ann Killoran will be heading to Croke Park this coming weekend to attend the all-Ireland Football Final Dublin V Tyrone.
Tom and Ann got married in September 1958, all of 60 years ago and have never missed an all-Ireland since they first attended their first one in 1957 (Louth V Cork). One of their daughters Annie is living in Tyrone and she is sending secret messages to Tubbercurry to the effect that Tyrone have a plan to dethrone Dublin this year... Best Wishes are extended to Annie and Tommy for many more years of wedded bliss.
