1 NOCROWS, LISA LAMBE AND MARTIN TOURISH
On Sunday the 2nd of September at 8pm, a special performance will take place at the Hawk’s Well Theatre. Well-known Sligo-based group, NoCrows perform and will be joined onstage by accordionist Martin Tourish and singer/songwriter Lisa Lambe. This will be a night of stellar entertainment and definitely one not to miss.
2 JENNIFER WALSHE
Renowned composer and artist Jennifer Walshe working both as curator and creator of Aisteach; the Avant-Garde Archive of Ireland at the Model from Saturday, September 1st. Aisteach (www.aisteach.org) is an archive of fictional histories that documents the development of experimental ideas and methods in Irish art, music, and literature.
3 SLIGO STAGES RALLY
The rescheduled Sligo Stages Rally takes place this Sunday having been postponed due to the heatwave earlier in the summer. The rally headquarters will be at the Sligo Park Hotel. Round 5 Triton Showers National Rally Championship, Round 5 Sligo Pallets Border Rally Championship and Round 5 Top Part West Coast Rally Championship all take place.
4 PERFECT DAY SURF SCHOOL’S 20TH BIRTHDAY
To celebrate Perfect Day Surf School’s 20th birthday, there will be a get together with food and music in The Dunes Bar, Strandhill on Saturday 1 at 8pm. There will also be a raffle on the night with all proceeds going toward the Elaine O’Halloran Medical Fund.
5 THE LITTLE LUNA 5K
The Little Luna 5k takes place on Sunday 2 September @ 12noon. Registration will take place in the Sligo Sports Complex from 10.30am. All proceeds from this event will be presented to the Sligo General neonatal unit (NICU), Little People Ireland (LPI) and Hugh’s House Dublin (parent accommodation at Temple Street Hospital).
6 COOLANEY 5K ROAD RACE & WALK
The Coolaney road race and walk takes place this year on Friday August 31st at 7.30pm. The event has changed to a 5km event this year. Event begins at Coolaney Community Centre from 7.30pm, with registration beginning at 6pm.
7 FIGHT SLAVERY WITH SOILSIGH
Enjoy a series of performances, poetry and music this weekend Sept 1-2 by local and international artists at The Factory to highlight Human Trafficking. First show is at 2pm Saturday. Award-winning director Callum Macrae’s new feature documentary tells the story of the death of eleven innocent people killed by the British Army on a Catholic estate in Belfast in 1971, and the fight by their relatives and survivors to discover the truth. 9 EXHIBITION OF WORKS BY BILLY MOORE
Billy Moore has been invited by Solas Gallery, Ballinamore to exhibit in their annual Invited Artist show. The exhibition opens this Friday. Billy Moore primarily works with the human form engaging a range of mediums and approaches that explores the complexity of bodily emotions.
10 MUSIC FOR A SUMMER’S EVENING
A harp and violin duet concert by Ramona Sakalauskaite and Natalia Kravchenko will take place in St. Patrick’s Church, Strandhill on Thursday from 7.30pm-9pm.
