BALLYTIVNAN SPORTS DAY
BALLLYTIVNAN witnessed their very first Family Fun day recently. The event was hosted by Ballytivnan Community Partnership in conjunction with Sligo County Council Community Connections programme (IFI). Approximately 150 people were in attendance including the Cathaoirleach Martin Baker, and Director of Services, Bartley Gavin, members of the Ballytivnan Community partnership, staff from Sligo Leader Partnership, Sligo County Council and Sligo Social services.
The day included various sports programmes which was delivered by Sligo Sports Recreation Partnership coaches Rory and Kate. The sports incorporated some old sports games such as egg and spoon race in which both children and adults joined in.
Chantal Doyle from Ballytivnan Community Partnership said: “It was great to see our Community Garda, County Council’s Community coordinator, the representatives from Sligo Leader and our own Martin Sweeney join in the fun, even if Sue Mahon did cheat in the race!
“A big hit with the children was the messy corner. A big thank you to Yvonne Lynch for making up the large tub of gloop that kept the children entertained for hours. Also very popular was the face painting and DJ Seamie Mac who kept the place rocking for the event. Local residents all mucked in serving up the tasty food washed down with plenty of tea and coffee. In addition the group hosted an art competition with four prize winners.
“Every child who participated received a Garda medal and a party bag. The Ballytivnan Community Partnership invited residents from the Mowlam Nursing Home who came out and joined in the fun. The group also had a display of items local people made on the Community Connection DIY course in which people signed up for the next programme that is due to commence in late September.
“The day was a huge success with great engagement from all ages. Local residents commented how nice it was to have a celebration in the heart of the community and also stating they cannot wait for the next event,” Chantal added, thanking everyone who supported the day.
