IRELAND RUGBY HONOURS FRONT row Kuba Wojtkowicz presented his Irish jersey to the club before their final Connacht Senior League game last Saturday in Hamilton Park. Kuba got his first Irish cap this summer, when he was called up to play for Ireland at the U20 Rugby World Cup and is also a member of the Connacht Academy. His dad Mariusz, mum Ilona and little brother Max, who plays U9 rugby with Sligo RFC, were all present, along with the Club’s senior squad. CONNACHT HONOURS BACK row Donnacha Byrne, having impressed at Connacht U18 level, was called up to play with Connacht U19s against Ulster in Bangor last Saturday. The home side came away the victors, with a score line of 33-17. Meanwhile in the Sportsgrou­nd in Galway, Connacht U18 girls played their second match of the Interpro series, having already defeated Ulster. Sligo’s Hannah Johnston, came into the game at flanker after 20 minutes, to help her side to a 26-10point win against Munster. The Senior Connacht Women’s game against Leinster, featuring Sligo’s Nicole Fowley at out half, did not go to plan, as a dominant Leinster side clocked up 47points without reply.

WEEKEND MATCH RESULTS THERE were several teams in league action both home and away. The U13s had a significan­t 17-12point win in the local derby against rivals Ballina. The U15s had the distinctio­n of playing the first ever game on the newly revamped second grass pitch. Unfortunat­ely, a late Westport resurgence resulted in a 17-26 loss for the home side. The U17s took on Claremorri­s/Tuam prior to the senior match on Saturday and were victorious with a 38-27point win over the visitors. The Senior Developmen­t team travelled to Monivea for a challenge game, in advance of the start of their Junior 1A league next week. The visitors had a hard-fought win over a physical home side. Full-time score Monivea 19 Sligo 24. JUVENILE training has started back for the season. It will continue every Saturday morning in the club, 10-11.15. All new members welcome.

Girl’s rugby training restarted on Monday 10th and will continue for U14, U16 and U18 girls every Monday at 6.45. Women’s Fun Rugby continues every Thursday evening.
