Unbeaten Cartron continue title bid

-

UNBEATEN Cartron United, with a game in hand, lead the way at the top of the Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier League, having not conceded a single goal in six games.

They welcomed Chaffpool United to MacSharry Park, and the visitors’ superb first half display ensured the game was level at the half way stage.

Cartron struck three minutes into the second half with Donal Gallagher on target.

Ten minutes later and Jake Hargadon added the second goal and on 63 minutes, Gallagher added his second, and the third goal to leave Cartron in a dominant position.

Cartron moved through the gears and with ten minutes remaining Dylan Monaghan pounced to add a fourth goal for Carton. Then on the stroke of full time Ryan Gethins was on the mark wrapping up all three points for Cartron.

The Pool on this display can and will, with a full squad cause a lot of problems for teams.

Coolaney United were awarded a walk over against Riverstown Masters and they remain in second spot on the leader board but they welcome leaders Cartron United to Coolaney next Sunday.

what a game that promises to be, not one to be missed.

St Johns made their journey to Gurteen Celtic a profitable one despite being 2-1 down at half time. Tony Taylor had cracked home a brace for Gurteen Celtic while Michael Doyle netted for St Johns.

The second half saw St John’s up the tempo with Conor Brennan levelling matters for the visitors. Keith Lynch topped the day for St Johns hitting a glorious winner for the Coolbeg Boys. TIRERAGH welcomed North Sligo side Benbulben FC and the game was decided in the first five minutes.

A handball by a Benbulben defender saw him red carded and Stephen Feeney bombed home the penalty kick that sealed the issue and the points for Tireragh. DUE to having several players representing Connacht in the Ward Cup in Donegal there was only one fixture in the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League and that was Ballisodare United at home to the seasiders Strand Celtic. IT was a close encounter that saw Strand Celtic take all three points winning 3-2.

KEVIN O Hara and Steven Patton were on target for Ballisodare Utd. Strand replied with a goal from ex Calry Bohs hitman Eoin Nicholson he was aided and abetted with a goal each from Fergal O Hara and Daniel Gray this win moving Strand Celtic up to seventh place on the leader board.
