Drennan hoping for good end to the season

-

MIKEY Drennan admits he probably won’t score a more important goal at Sligo Rovers this season, as his second-half strike confirmed Rovers’ place in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division next season.

Rovers were 2-1 winners over Bray Wanderers at The Showgrounds on Saturday night, and Drennan admitted it could well have been more.

“IT’S a good time coming, especially for the fans. The main thing was to get a win here and we probably should have had five or six by the end.

“WE made it hard for ourselves but it was still a good performance and good to get a win at home,” he added.

The occasion was not lost on the players, who ensured they put in a winning performance on the club’s 90th anniversary, with President Michael D Higgins in the crowd for the game.

“That was the main thing with such a big crowd here tonight. Hopefully we can get more big crowds if we keep winning at home.

“We need to convert our away form into our home form and then the fans would continue to turn up and we would push up the table, especially next year.”

With just three league games left, two of those are at home, and Drennan is hopeful that the Bit O’Red can finish the season strongly.

“Hopefully we can get two wins out of two with Bohs and Shamrock Rovers coming up at home. Obviously we have Dundalk away but we’re hoping to finish the season strongly which is the main thing really.”
