Sligo endorsed as a coach friendly destination
SLIGO has passed a “recertification” of its coach facilities.
The move has been welcomed by Sligo BID and the County Council.
CEO of the Coach Tourism Transport Council (CTTC) of Ireland, Kevin Traynor said: “On behalf of the Coach Tourism and Transport Council I am delighted to once again to award Sligo certification as a coach friendly destination.
“Sligo was the first Town/City to receive Coach Friendly Status in 2016 and is a perfect example of what can be achieved when the all local stakeholders pool their expertise and resources to achieve a common goal.”
Mayor of Sligo Municipal District, Cllr. Rosaleen O’Grady presented a copy of the new B2B sales book ‘Destination Sligo’ to the CEO who immediately agreed to distribute it to the members of CTTC and to promote it amongst international inbound operators.
Sligo BID and Sligo County Council representatives will be attending the CCTC industry trade show in the RDS in Dublin in November where they will meet over 3,000 coach drivers and tour operators from home and abroad.
The new sales book is specifically designed for the coach and conference sector. Sligo BID has thanked Sligo County Council, Sligo Chamber, Sligo Tourism, Sligo Food Trail and Fáilte Ireland for contributing to the production of the book.
There are designated bus parking spaces on Markievicz Road which was upgraded to accommodate them.
The works included the installation of new bus shelters, new brick paving and decorative public lighting columns.
There is also coach parking at The Model car park on Connaughton Road.
Sligo BID says having had the distinction of being recognised as First Friendly Coach Destination in Ireland in 2016, Sligo’s improved reputation in this area was most visible in the increased coach traffic to Sligo this past summer.
