Raffle to raise funds for forest walk extension

-

A new extension to the forest walk at Rathscanlon Tubbercurry has just been completed and is proving a huge hit with walkers and runners of all ages as well as with young families.

The original path walk within the forest at the back of Rathscanlon Creamery was developed around four years ago and proved over those years to be an excellent community facility.

The only criticism at the time was that it was too short, as it was less than 2km in length.

The sponsors of the project are Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce & Community Association and this year they secured further funding to do a big extension to extend the total paths length to over 5km.

There is now a variety of options and directions to choose from.

The walk now extends out to the back of the 80 acre forest of oak, ash, spruce, and pine and extents across Rathscanlon, and Rhue bogs.

The project is kindly facilitated by various land owners including Coillte, Aurivo and various bog owners in Rathscanlon & Rhue bogs.

The local community need to raise matched funding for the project and to this end a fundraising raffle has been organised. Tickets are €20 each or a book of 3 for €50. Approximately €15,000 needs to be raised so organisers ask that each individual and family is as generous as possible.

At this stage hundreds of locals use the walk regularly and its beauty speaks for itself.

Tickets are available from a variety of outlets in and around town including: Geraldine Brennan (Laundry Basket) John Gillespie (Gillespie Menswear) Mary Barry (Pharmacy)

Roger McCarrick (Auctioneers office) More outlets will be announced soon. If you cannot get to town in the near future ring Geraldine Ph. 087 9637149 or email geraldinebrennan@live.ie

Make an effort over the next few days to come into the forest walk and see for yourself.

Explore the various loops, enjoy the trees, open spaces, fresh air and peace. You will not be disappointed.
