RECRUITMENT OF 350 EIR JOBS STARTS NOW
OLD TE BUILDING AT RATHEDMOND TO BE NEW CUSTOMER CENTRE
RECRUITMENT of 350 workers for eir’s new customer centre at the old Telecom Eireann building at Rathedmond will be begin tomorrow.
An open day at The Sligo park Hotel will be held to start filling the roles which will be mainly in customer services and are part of eir’s overall programme to bring all customer-facing functions back in-house.
Eir announced last week it is to create 750 jobs in Sligo, Cork and Limerick six months after it cut the same number of jobs as part of a voluntary redundancy programme.
Eir says 350 of the new positions will be at a new state-of-the-art facility at Rathedmond
According to eir, the goal of the programme is “to deliver a higher quality of service for customers and greater levels of ownership and responsibility for eir employees.”
CEO Carolan Lennon said eir had ended its contract with HCL because it had changed its strategy and basically wants people delivering to customers to work for eir.
Eir was acquired 12 months ago by a consortium led by the French telecoms billionaire, Xavier Niel.
News of the jobs has been given a broad welcome locally.
Fine Gael TD and Assistant Government Whip, Tony McLoughlin, said that the announcement was yet further evidence that a strong skill based regional jobs recovery was currently underway in Sligo and the North West.
“This announcement by Eir follows the 100 research jobs announced by Overstock INC last week and it is greatly welcomed.
“Since January 2018, with this jobs announcement today, 1150 new jobs have been created in Sligo by the IDA, Enterprise Ireland and private companies.
“Companies such as Eir, Abtran, Phibro, E3 Retail, Live Tiles and Abbott Ireland have all chosen Sligo for investment and this is a major boost for our town and the region in general and this illuminates the quality we have on offer in Sligo and the attractiveness for investment on offer.
“As a TD who on a weekly basis raised the issue of job creation for Sligo the Dail and who banged on the table about the lack of delivery in the past, I am delighted with today’s news and I fully expect there to be even more jobs announcements for Sligo and the region in the coming months and years”
“With 1150 new jobs created, it is clear to see that we have turned a corner in Sligo with regards to job creation and the future is bright under a Fine Gael led Government and this is nothing more than what we deserve in this region” concluded McLoughlin.
The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Martin Baker said: ‘ This latest news is another boost for the local economy, and I would like to commend everyone involved in delivering on this initiative.
Sligo County Council will continue to work with the IDA, Sligo Chamber and other key agencies to Sligo continues so grow and develop as the economic hub of the Northwest.’
