Sligo Rowing Club AGM sheds light on club’s growth

SLIGO Rowing Club held its AGM on Thursday, October 11th with the meeting being well attended by club members and supporters.

Chairperso­n Rory Clarke gave an address on the club’s successful 2018 year including the club’s annual regatta which was held in the summer with over 70 races taking place on the day.

A similar event is scheduled for the 2019 racing season with tentative plans also in place for a much sought after Sligo Head of the River event in the spring.

The continued success of Leisure Rowing facilitate­d by Ray Murtagh and Kevin Connolly was also highlighte­d with leisure rowers now numbering in excess of 40 members at the club.

The club welcomed many new members this year and a second Leisure Rowing Boat was purchased in May 2018.

Club Captain Glenn Patterson summarised the club’s 2018 competitiv­e achievemen­ts on the water with Sligo Rowing Club attending both Fermoy and Carlow regattas for the first time during the year.

He also gave an exciting forecast on the 2019 competitiv­e season with not only some exceptiona­l junior single scullers on the water including Brian Colsh, Killian McCarthy, Alannah Donohoe and Erin O’Connor but also some excellent junior boys and junior girls coxed quads.

The following officers were elected: Chairperso­n - Rory Clarke, Regatta (events) Secretary - Molua Donohue, General Secretary – Ailish Hackett, Treasurer - Ray Murtagh, PRO – Ailish Hackett, Child Welfare Officers – Adrienne Hackett and Tommy Colsh, Safety Officer – Kevin Connolly, Competitiv­e Team Capitan (male) – Glenn Patterson, Competitiv­e Team Capitan (female) – Cora Hackett, Leisure Team Captain (male) – Graham Glynn, Leisure Team Captain (female) – Sherwin Carter, General Committee Member – Nola Gibbons , Paul Hardiman.

Sligo Rowing Club trains on the water from 8:30am to 1PM on Saturday and Sundays in Doorly Park for those who wish to try out the sport
