Carraroe NEW LANDSCAPING PROJECT

Work has commenced on a new project adjacent to Martin Reilly Motors which when completed will enhance that entrance to Carraroe. We want to thank Sligo County Council Tidy Towns Special Projects for the grant to assist us undertake this landscaping. We also want to thank Martin Reilly for his generous donation of €500 to assist us with our activities.

CARRAROE TIDY TOWNS

We are delighted to see our area contributed positively in bringing Sligo up in the IBAL survey on litter. Sligo is now eighth overall in the rankings of €40pean wide town and cities. The following comments in the report highlight the excellent work of the Carraroe Community.

Carraroe Church (St John’s) and Environs: Grade A the grounds of the church were well maintained and clean and tidy. All aspects of the area surveyed were in very good order – it was spotless throughout

Carraroe Community Centre: Grade A This is a small area with facility with parking. The building was in good order, and there was a colourful mural on one gable wall. There was a complete absence of litter.

Scoil Naomh Éanna Cearra Rua: Grade A One of the most striking features of this school was the level of planting. Clearly it is a much loved and respected environment – the grounds were in very good order with colourful planting and greenery throughout. The paving area directly outside the school grounds was also in very good condition. Scoil Eanna Cearra Rua was a top-ranking site throughout.

Approach from Junction at R287: Grade B This route leading into Sligo was somewhat littered with sweet papers, fast-food wrappers and coffee cups very much in evidence. The road surface and markings were in good condition.

We have noted this road into Sligo is highlighted and reduced our grade which is a disappointment. We will be examining how we can prevent this location reducing our ratings in the future.

WALKWAY/CYCLE WAY

Work is progressing on this development and is now reaching Molly Fulton’s which will allow our residents the opportunity to walk and cycle safely to this location. We are now working to have the next phase developed to join up with the Ballisodare Walkway/ Cycle way.

SPEED WARNINGS

As result of requests from residents concerning speeding on our roads Cadra has highlighted the issue to Garda and the matter has been examined by Sligo County Council. It is now planned to have warning measures installed. We appreciate the allocation of Cllr Tom McSharry towards progressing this project We have also been advised garda speed patrols will be increased in the area.

POSTER CAMPAIGN
