Ballymote CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

A very important meeting of the Ballymote Christmas Lights will take place on Wednesday, October 24, in the Pastoral Centre at 8.30 p.m. As funding is badly needed all business people and members of the general public are in invited to attend to try and see can we light Ballymote up in style this year.

COMMUNITY LIBRARY

Ballymote Community Library is sending out a call for any and all local WW1 stories and memorabili­a – to share in a WW1 Ballymote Exhibition to be run in the library in November 2018.

We would like to hear from anyone who had family members fight in WW1 – or who has WW1 stories, medals or memorabili­a that they would like to share as part of this exhibition – Please call in or call Eithne or Nick at 071 9111669.

COLEMAN MUSIC CENTRE

Those people who trained in autumn/winter 2016 are now due for Re-Training, as their certificat­ion only lasts two years. INDOOR COUNTRY MARKET

The Indoor Country Market (9km from Tubbercurr­y out on the Ballina Road besides Joe Dan’s Pub) continues from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. every Saturday. Along with the usual great selection of local produce and crafts they are also introducin­g ‘zero waste’ rice, oats and flour – bring your own container and pay by weight. Bunninadde­n-Killavil SYMPATHY

Deepest sympathy is extended to Milo, Marie, and Peadar McManus on the death of Lilian Dillon sister of Milo. She was laid to rest in St John’s Cemetery, Castleisla­nd on Friday last. May her soul rest in peace.

Social dancing classes continue in the community centre on Friday nights from 9.11 p.m. All are welcome and refreshmen­ts served.

Coolaney-Rockfield GOSPEL CHOIR

The Coolaney Gospel Choir will be performing at their annual Night of song in the Mountain Inn Coolaney on November 10 at 8 p.m. The concert has SOLD OUT in record time, highlighti­ng just how popular this talented choir is. COOLANEY ICA NEWS

New members are always welcome to attend our classes or join the guild which is now running for over 50 years. Keep Fit classes started on Monday, October 22, and runs for six nights, finishing on November 26 On November 1 at 8 p.m., Faye Hayden from Sligo Social Services will give a talk on a new project running in Sligo and detail the great work carried out by the organisati­on. Our annual ‘Bag pack for charity’ will take place later in the month, on the 22nd, 23rd and November 24.

COOLANEY UNITED

Coolaney United Wednesday Night Bonus Ball Draw is to support fundraisin­g efforts for the proposed new Astro Pitch in Coolaney Community park. Each Bonus Ball is €5 with a weekly prize of €100. Bonus balls can be purchased in PK MEATS on Thursday and Fridays and in O’Grady’s shop and Pub the rest of the week. Best of luck to all.

JUNIOR YOUTH GROUP

Meetings are every Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Coolaney Community Centre for Youths between the ages of 12-15.

FORÓIGE CLUB

Gurteen CEMETERY PRAYERS

On Sunday, November 4, there will be prayers in Killaraght New Cemetery at 10.15 after Mass: Gurteen at 2.15: Mount Irwin at 3 p.m. and Carrentemp­le at at 3.45 p.m. On Sunday, November 11, the prayers will be said in Templerona­n Cemetery at 3 p.m. and in Killaraght Old Cemetery at 2.15 p.m.

REMEMBRANC­E CEREMONY

Rememberin­g Our Deceased ceremony for all who died since November last year will be in Gurteen Church on Sunday evening, November 18, at 5 p.m.

GURTEEN ACTIVE AGE

Gurteen active age group meet weekly on Monday at 2.30 p.m. in the Coleman Centre, Gurteen. New members are welcome to come along.

KIDDIES DISCO

A Hallowe’en kiddies disco will be held in the ‘Haunted Room’, Teach Murray, Gurteen on Sunday, October 28, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be two spooky witches, storytelli­ng, games and loads of prizes etc. The entry will be €5 per child and for families €5 for the first two children and €3 per child after.

All proceeds will go to Gurteen Playground and Adult Recreation towards the annual insurance cost.

EASTERN HARPS

Eastern Harps is running a monster race night in the Fox’s Den, Keash on Sunday, October 28. Please contact any member of the club executive for informatio­n. This is a fundraisin­g event for the GAA.

SAVE GURTEEN POST OFFICE

The ‘Save Gurteen post office’ committee received a small boost to their campaign on Wednesday last with the closing date pushed forward till the end of January 2019. It just means that the fight will continue to make sure that the final result will be the post office remains open serving Gurteen and surroundin­g areas as it has being doing for many years.

Keash-Culfadda OFFEE MORNING

Keash Village Enhancemen­t Ltd are having a coffee morning on Thursday, November 1, at the Fox’s Den from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds go towards Phase two Developmen­t of A Multi Purpose Games Area. BRIGHTER COMMUNITIE­S WORLDWIDE

Thank you to Martin Ballantyne, who spoke at all Masses over the weekend about Brighter Communitie­s Worldwide, formerly Friends of Londiani.

Set up as a charity in Ireland and an NGO in Kenya in 2003, this organisati­on was co-founded by Martin Ballantyne and his wife Maria (a native of Cross, son of Kathleen and Tom) and now has an office in Midleton and Londiani in Kenya. In Kenya they work with rural and urban communitie­s with a focus on improving health in homesteads and schools, giving access to clean water, keeping girls and boys in school, maternal health services and economic empowermen­t opportunit­ies.

CHARITABLE DONATION SCHEME

The Charitable Donations Scheme is currently being put in place in our parish. Parishione­rs, who have completed the CHY three Form are thanked most sincerely. Our parish has received €10.085.00 to date.

This Scheme applies to PAYE Workers, Income from Self-Em- ployment or anyone in receipt of a Pension from Employment, who has paid Tax in 2014,2015,2016 and 2017 and contribute­d a minimum of €250 each year to the weekly Offertory Collection and/ or Priests Collection. For every €250 contribute­d €112.32 is refunded by Revenue to the parish.

Parishione­rs, who are willing to be part of this Scheme must complete the CHY3 Form. All completed Forms received will be dealt with in strict confidence. Our Parish will greatly benefit from this Scheme.

COFFEE MORNING THANKS.

The hospice coffee morning was held in the Fox’s Den on September 20 last. Thanks to Patrick Ward for the use of his premises and to Nickie for her help. Thanks also to Breda Forkin for her confection­ery creations and to those who attended and contribute­d to the event. Amount raised €560,

RACE NIGHT

The Eastern Harps race night takes place in the Fox’s Den Keash on Sunday Night, October 28 (Bank Holiday weekend). This event has been organised to raise funds for the completion of our new Club House.

With a total investment of more than €550,000, the club will have one of the finest facilities in the county. Much hard work has gone into bringing this project to reality and we now look forward to a completion date in Spring 2019. This investment will serve the club and local community well for many years to come.

We would like to sincerely thank the many companies and individual­s who have donated money so far. There is still an opportunit­y to get involved in the fundraiser. You can do so by contacting any of the club executive or by emailing racenight@easternhar­ps.com.

DEATHS

Sincerest condolence­s to Tommy Kelly, Fallougher, whose mother passed away recently; laid to rest in Roundfort, County Mayo.

We also remember Paddy McGowan who died in London and formerly of Cloonshanb­ally (brother of Francis and Andy, also Mai Looby Greyfield). Our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

Congratula­tions to all involved with Tourlestra­ne senior men’s football team, on their recent success; winning the County Championsh­ip for the third time in a row. A wonderful achievemen­t for all concerned.
