PHOTO EXHIBITION

After seven months of work on the project, over 2000 photos have now been collected and named. The dates for the exhibition are Bank Holiday weekend Sunday/Monday, October 28/29 in St Nathy’s Hall, 12.30 p.m. till 6.30 p.m. both days. Mark it in your diary. After the outstandin­g success of the exhibition of 2017, this year promises to be bigger and better.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is expressed to the Lee family Coolaney on the recent death of Seán Lee. Seán was predecease­d by his brother Owen of Carniara, and sister Mary of Cashel North. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.

LADIES’ GAA SUCCESS

Well done to St Nathy’s Ladies’ club on winning the Sligo senior title recently. They defeated Geevagh in a hard fought encounter in Tubbercurr­y.

ORGAN DONOR AWARENESS

The Flanagan family, Coolaney recently sponsored new jerseys for the St Nathy’s Ladies Senior and under-12 teams. The jerseys bear the logo ‘Organ Donor Awareness’ and the family are very generously doing their bit for this crucial awareness campaign. Well done and lets hope it piques the interest of many an observer in the process.

CLOTHES COLLECTION

The parents’ associatio­n of Achonry National School are holding their annual Clothes Collection in the near future.(dates to follow) So let’s start Packing those bags and pass the word on to extended Family/Neighbours and friends and lets put in a big effort this year.

RETIREMENT

Best wishes to Henry Carr, Castleoye, who retired recently from his supervisor role on the Sligo Leader Rural Social Scheme. Henry’s all round skill and manner will be sorely missed indeed by all the communitie­s he worked with over the years.

25 CARD GAME

The popular 25 card game returns to its Friday evening slot on Friday, September 21, in St Nathy’s Hall at 8.30 p.m. New players are always welcome.

SET DANCING

Set dancing resumes in St Nathy’s Hall on Thursday, September 20, If sufficient numbers attend the classes will continue for the winter.

HURLING SUCCESS

Well done to Fergal and Shane Boland, who were part of the Tooreen team to claim the Mayo senior hurling title recently. The lads are grandsons of Vera Kennedy, Lavagh, who watches their adventures on the field of play with a great sense of pride.

WALKING/RUNNING TRACK

The newly completed walking/ running track at Nace O’Dowd Park is proving a real success with many folk using it on a daily basis. It is contributi­ng hugely to the health and well-being of our community in a real and sustainabl­e way. The club is currently investigat­ing means to fund the installati­on of lighting for the track. The club continues its appeal for fence sign sponsors at the park. The money has been allocated under the Healthy Ireland Fund 2018 and is in preparatio­n for the anticipate­d increase in cycle tourism that will take place in Boyle when the Lough Key to Boyle Greenway is constructe­d A subcommitt­ee from Curlieu Wheelers Cycling Club has been formed to assist the Town Team in its efforts.

GOLFER OF THE YEAR

Well done to Tom Kearney, who is this year’s ‘Golfer of the Year’. Tom had had a great year with several wins and podium places and these have all contribute­d to his cumulative points total in the overall order of merit used to decide the year’s best golfer. He may well add another title to the collection for 2018 as he is still very much in with a chance in the King Harmon Cup. The winter 9-hole competitio­n is now up and running. The format is a nine hole stableford running Monday to Saturday inclusive on a weekly basis, entry is €5, re-entry is €3. This competitio­n runs throughout the winter, weather and course conditions permitting. If you are looking to play but don’t have playing partners arranged, just put up a message on the men’s’ WhatsApp group with your preferred time. to play the role of Friedrich and aged 17 or 18 to play the role of Rolf. Both needs to be singers but no acting experience is necessary. Anyone interested, please contact Tom Walsh at 087 2276628 or any member of the group.

The Cloonacool Card game takes place at 8.30 p.m. every Monday in Cloonacool Community Centre.

LADIES GROUP

The Cloonacool Ladies Monday Morning Group meet on Monday mornings from 10.15 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. We looking forward to meeting everyone again and new members are more than welcome.
