We invite you to a 50th Celebration in Foleys over the Halloween Bank Holiday weekend

-

IN 1968 Paddy and Patsy Foley sold their pub in Ballygawley (now known as Callaghan’s) and moved to Tubbercurry where they purchased a corner premises (formally known as Fergusons). At the time Tubbercurry would have been considered a vibrant town with the likes of Basta and Tool and Gauge being great employers for the town and surrounding areas. Tubbercurry was also known to have one of the biggest Fair’s in the West of Ireland. It was held on the second Wednesday of every month and was a big day for the town.

In the early days of Fergusons / Foleys it wasn’t just a pub but a place you could buy almost anything, most notably it was a gun shop where you could buy ammunition, cartridges etc.. Fishing tackle was also a regular purchase for customers. Where the bar area is now, this was an unused part of the premises which was turned into a lounge and opened in late ’68.

Paddy and Patsy weren’t long settling into their new home when the rest of the family started to arrive. The 3 oldest were born in Ballygawley and there were 5 more to follow. Michael recalls, “Back in the days I’m sure it wasn’t easy running a business and rearing a family of 8 children overhead” but all of us got on fine. Paddy and Patsy continued running the business for the next 30 years before a well-earned retirement. At that point Michael their only son took over the business and is managing it still today.

On account of being 50 years in business this year Michael would like to take this opportunity, on behalf himself, Paddy and Patsy and the Foley family to thank all the patrons who have passed through the doors over those years. We thank them for their support and look forward to your continued support.

We invite you to a 50 th Celebration in Foleys over the Halloween Bank Holiday weekend. There will be entertainment etc.. on all weekend from October 26 th to 28th. Check out facebook “Foley’s Bar” for all details. In honour of the 50 years and in memory of Paddy and Patsy, Michael would like to announce that Foley’s Bar will donate 10% of the weekend takings to “Sligo Hospice” and “Alzheimer’s Ireland”.
