Success of Clasp buses to Sligo
A new CLASP bus service from
Gurteen and Ballymote to Sligo has proven to be great success.
Since September numbers have increased significantly with students returning to the IT.
The company was well prepared for the extra demand, Siobhan Keaney transport administrator with CLASP stated. “You could see the demand was there from hits on our social media accounts and thankfully we were well prepared for the first week back and had two buses on.”
CLASP is also reporting their three mid morning routes are proving very popular with older people who wish to travel to Sligo town for a day out.
CLASP is in the process of growing the enterprise further and is researching purchasing a larger bus to accommodate the growth in numbers. They have also looked at other commuter villages around the county which might have the capacity to support a daily morning transport service into Sligo. CLASP management believes transport will be a new growth sector taking into account the inevitability of a carbon tax being introduced in the coming years which will significantly increase the cost of travel.
They also believe young people are becoming more self conscious of their carbon foot print and will support sustainable transport models like CLASP is providing. The company is looking at environment friendly buses in their expansion plans. In a short space of time the route has grown with the support of the community and has created two local full time jobs.
