Thousands of students graduate from colleges

-

IT was a hectic few days for both local colleges IT Sligo and St Angela’s as their Graduation ceremonies took place on Thursday and Friday with thousands of students now moving on to their new chapter in their careers.

IT Sligo’s Graduation Days were held across two days, Thursday and Friday, while St Angela’s College held its busy conferring ceremony on Friday with its Graduation Ball taking place that evening in the Radisson Blu Hotel.

A total of 1,652 students graduated from the IT.

This was an increase of more than 100 graduates on last year and is on target for the 2022 strategic plan to double graduations to 3,000.

The students have graduated in 93 courses over the three faculties of Science, Engineering & Design and Business and Social Science.

Among those graduating are students from countries across the globe.

These include Italy, Romania and Canada.

The Institute also has a mother and daughter graduating together this year from the School of Business.

Speaking at the gradua- tion President of IT Sligo, Dr Brendan McCormack welcomed the graduates and their families. He said: “On behalf of the Governing Body of IT Sligo, it is an honour and a pleasure to welcome each of you here today.

“We are honouring your hard earned success.

“Your efforts have brought distinction to you personally, to the Institute and to the often unheralded and silent partners in higher education, your inspiring and supportive families and friends,” he added.
