Laura McGuinn named on Iowa all-region team

-

SLIGO’S Laura McGuinn is one of four Iowa Lakes Community College football players who has been named in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Women’s Soccer All-Region teams.

Laura, formerly of Strand Celtic and the Ursuline College, was named on the 2nd team All-Region. Laker Women’s Head Soccer Coach, Blake Viedenkamp, praised Laura’s work ethic.

“Laura McGuinn has been an outstanding freshman for the Lakers.

“Her endless work ethic and drive have been the spark that the women’s soccer program has been needing. McGuinn and her abilities this season can be summed up in two words, consistent and resilient. Her work rate this year was valuable to our team, and I would say that she is one of the most underrated players in our conference,” added Viedenkamp.

Laura moved to Iowa in the United States this summer to begin studying PE teaching, while also getting the opportunity to play football.

Laura has also been involved with Sligo Rovers summer camps, and has assisted in coaching with the club.

She volunteers at the local elementary school, where she plays football with kids on their lunch break (pictured right).

Viedenkamp told The Sligo Champion: “I wish I had 10 Laura Mc Guinns on my team. Fantastic person, fantastic player, great work ethic.”
