Rovers yet to announce any new signings

-

IT’S over three weeks since Sligo Rovers played their final game of the 2018 League of Ireland season.

New manager Liam Buckley has a task on his hands to rebuild the squad, with most players’ contracts ending at the season’s end.

Ten players are contracted for 2019: Mitchell Beeney, Ed McGinty, Luke McNicholas, John Mahon, Jack Keaney, David Cawley, Liam Kerrigan, Niall Morahan, Patrick McClean and Kris Twardek.

The club have an option on Mikey Drennan, although it remains to be seen whether or not he will be staying.

Lewis Morrison was the first to confirm his departure from the Bit O’Red just after the season ended, with Seamus Sharkey also tweeting his goodbyes to the club yesterday (Monday).

It’s been a quiet few weeks regarding signings and who might be donning the Rovers shirt next season.

In general, it’s been a quiet off season so far for most League of Ireland clubs compared to what we’re used to, so perhaps there is no need for a panic just yet.

At St. Patrick’s Athletic, Buckley’s signings were usually announced in bulk.

The rumour mill has barely even started this off-season, but Rovers are yet again understood to be in talks with Ronan Murray.

The Mayo native was in talks with Gerard Lyttle this time last year, but was also understood to be speaking to Lyttle before his departure, with Buckley believed to have met him in recent weeks.

Reports in Derry are suggesting that Rovers are interested in Darren Cole.

The Scottish defender has been with the Candystripes since 2017.
