Secret postcard exhibition opens

-

The first secret postcard exhibition Rún has opened at the Hyde Bridge Gallery at the Yeats Building.

Visitors to the Gallery were happy to queue up to buy from the great mix of works by established and emerging visual artists; all works were €50. The buyer chooses a work without knowing the identity of the artist, which is disclosed after the purchase. Many of the artists in the exhibition live and work in Sligo.

Mayor of Sligo Rosaleen O’Grady opened the Exhibition and remarked on the generosity of spirit in the exhibition, particularly from established artists who were happy to support their younger colleagues. Funds raised from the Exhibition will go towards supporting young and emerging artists in 2019, especially in collaboration with IT Sligo’s Fine Art Degree Programme and the ETB’s Diploma course. Chair of the Hyde Bridge Gallery committee Nuala Clarke said that the Gallery, which is run by Yeats Society Sligo, is breaking new ground, with its stated aim of supporting young/ emerging artists. She thanked everyone who had taken part, particularly praising those people who were exhibiting work for the first time in their lives.

Established artists exhibiting at Rún included Cormac O’Leary, Emma Stroude, Nuala Clarke, Medbh Gillard, Tom Climent and many others. The event was supported by Creative Ireland - Sligo, supporting outreach to visual artists and encouraging collaboration.

The Rún Exhibition will be open Monday to Saturday 105pm until December 20 th. All works sold are taken by the buyer at the time of sale and replaced with new work.
