Waste prevention business winner
SLIGO University Hospital has been named the winner of the Waste Prevention Business of the Year, sponsored by the European Recycling Platform (ERP), at the fourth annual Pakman Awards, powered by Repak.
The awards ceremony, which took place at the InterContinental Hotel in Dublin, saw 400 representatives from leading businesses, organisations and community groups come together to recognise excellence in recycling, sustainability and waste management.
The entry from Sligo University Hospital was exceptional in terms of presentation, measurable impacts and overall buy-in from stakeholders.
The commitment of the team to drive waste reduction, waste prevention and implementing real change to promote and support sustainability is inspiring. Sligo University Hospital’s Green Campus Committee has successfully undertaken wide reaching waste reduction initiatives, including the reduction of single use cups and take-out boxes, promoting the reuse of bulk catering containers and driving lean management across clinical/non-clinical areas to reduce waste.
Commenting on Sligo University Hospital’s outstanding work was Séamus Clancy, CEO of Repak: “We are delighted to name Sligo University Hospital the winner of this year’s Waste Prevention Business of the Year Award, a reflection of the environmentally sustainable practices demonstrated by the organisation at large.
“It is companies like Sligo University Hospital that are setting the standards for others to follow, with a waste management system that is exemplary.
“I would also like to extend my congratulations to all the finalists and winners of this year’s Pakman Awards.
“This year, we saw a record number of entries submitted to the Pakman Awards and we look forward to continued success for Ireland’s premier celebration of the recycling sector.”
