BALLYMOTE

Thanks to all who helped out and donated to the Bord na Nog flag day collection last Saturday. This was a very successful event with over 1200 euro raised on the day.

The monthly draw will take place this Saturday night, 15 December, in Gormley’s. There are great prizes up for grabs each month, contact any member of the club committee for details on how to be in with a chance of winning.

2019 club calendars are now on sale in Supervalu, Lavins menswear and Henrys fuel station. They are priced at 10 euro each and contain team pictures from the 2018 season from underage to adult level. This will make a great Christmas present so make sure not to miss out.

The 25 card playing continues every Sunday evening at 6.30pm in Doddys.

ST FARNAN’S

THE club’s AGM took place on Sunday last in Dromore West Community Centre. The following officers were elected: Chairman Adrian Smyth, Vice Chairman Sean Weir, Secretary Frances Hanley, Treasurer Mary Gordon, Assistant Treasurer Padraic Culkin, PRO Frances Hanley, Club registrar Imelda McNulty, Cultural Officer Sean Kilgannon, County board delegate Padraig Hallinan, Children’s Officer Mary Kilgannon. Sincere thanks to Kieran O’Connor for representi­ng the club over the past few years as he steps down from the role of county board delegate. The next 50/50 draw will take place on Sunday. Extra prize draws for yearly ticket holders also on the night.

CLOONACOOL

THE Sligo GAA County Board annual convention will be held in the Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa on this coming Wednesday night December 12th with registrati­on from 7.30pm. The Annual General meeting of the club will be held on Saturday 29th December at 5 pm in the Community Park meeting rooms. All officers, players, parents, sponsors and interested supporters are asked to attend. Anyone, particular­ly parents interested in helping to run the club over the course of the coming season are asked to contact club chairman Bill Carty, secretary Fergus Leonard, vicechair Brian McIntyre or any club officer in the coming weeks. The annual charity match will be held in the Community Park on St. Stephens Day at 2pm. The charity being supported this year is Diabetes Ireland. The East will face the West once again on this occasion when limbs which haven’t seen the light of day for quite a while will be coaxed into action, all in the interest of a good cause. All support will be very much appreciate­d. Hard luck to the Tourlestra­ne ladies team on Sunday last in Ballinaslo­e in their efforts to bring home an All-Ireland title to the county.

SLIGO HANDBALL NOTES

THE second 4 Wall Juvenile blitz was held in Castleconn­or last Sunday ,09-12- 2018 , with 30 children taking part in an enjoyable days handball.

THE final of the Adult 4 Wall doubles competitio­ns will be played in Collooney on Tuesday 11-12-2018 , starting at 7.pm, with Team C playing Team D. DRUMCLIFFE host their annual Underage Golden Gloves next Sunday, starting at 11.am. The draw for the 4 Wall ladder will take place this week. Enteries for the 2019 4 Wall Championsh­ip are now being taken. ST Pat’s AGM St Pat’s held their A.G.M on Sunday last in the Community Centre. Thanks to all who attended. Full report to follow. Best Wishes to Gerry O Connor in his bid to be elected as Chairman of Sligo County Board.

ST Pat’s will hold a table quiz on Saturday December 29th in Rafter’s Bar. The club ask for your support on the night. It’s a night to meet neighbours and friends home from Christmas. Full details later.

SHAMROCK GAELS

THE club held the AGM last weekend. The only change in officers was the appointmen­t of Ursula Lyons as secretary replacing Chris O’Neill who now takes up the position of Assistant Secretary. Thanks to Chris for all his work as secretary over the last five years and best of luck to Ursula in her new role. Thanks also to Shane Quigley for all his work as he completes his term as Insurance Officer. A full list of officers is available on the website. TICKETS are now in circulatio­n for the National Club Draw for €10 each. This is one of the club’s main fundraisin­g activities for the year with 100% of the money raised going to the club. The first prize is a car with many other great prizes. THE Dinner Dance will be held on February 2nd next year in the Clayton Hotel, put the date in the diary. THE St John’s Lotto Jackpot was not won in the draw that took place in Cannings House and Garden, Cornageeha when the numbers drawn were 2, 5, 8 and 20. ST Johns have been lucky to secure bag-packing as a fund-raising venture on Thurs 20th, Fri 21st and Sat 22nd of December in a local supermarke­t and we are looking for parents as volunteers to help out with this. If you are free and willing to help out for a few hours on any of these days please contact the manager/trainer of your daughter’s/son’s team to arrange a rota. PARK News

EXCITING news as the latest developmen­t at the community park is completed and open for use. The outdoor gym with a fine selection of equipment was installed over the last few weeks and we know this will enhance the experience for everyone that use this facility. We encourage everyone to make the most of the community park as a safe convenient place to exercises that is open every day and lighting on until 10pm every night.

SLIGO Sports Partnershi­p must be given a huge thanks for the grant funding we received to complete this project. WE hope to run a programme in early January in conjunctio­n with Sligo Sport Partnershi­p that will include the outdoor Gym. Please let anyone on the committee know if this is of interested and watch out for new on this after Christmas. THIS was one of the busiest years for the park as we hosted numerous championsh­ip games including the Intermedia­te county final. The community park committee wish to sincerely thank all the volunteers that helped out in any way and in particular to Sean, Martin & John for everything they did throughout the year. AS as small token of thanks to all these volunteers and to everyone in the parish that has supported us during the year we extend an open invitation to a social night out on December 30th in Perry’s Taverns. Music and refreshmen­ts and a great night entertainm­ent for everyone. PLANS are already in place for a new project in 2019 to further enhance the park for everyone.

DRUMCLIFFE/ROSSES POINT

THERE was a strong DRP contingent on the Summerhill College Junior gaelic football team which beat St Jarlath’s of Tuam last week by 4-15 to 2-6 to reach the Connacht Colleges A league final against St Gerald’s Castlebar. Eoghan & Ciarán Smith, Ciarán O’Reilly, Hugh Keaney, Cian Oates, Desmond Gillen and Josh Brady were all part of the panel.

TRIBUTES were paid to Tom Haran on his stepping down as Cultural Officer. Scór is 50 years old in 2019 and our Club area and Tom have been actively involved from the very start. Tom thanked the Club and all those involved previously in supporting Scór. He said we had always been one of the most proactive Clubs in promoting Scór which is an important part of our heritage and he looked forward to assisting our newly appointed Cultural Officer Siobhan Watters in the role. MARY Gilsenan also stepped down from her position as Treasurer and Club Chairman Sean Herron paid tribute to her for her exceptiona­l service in the role FOLLOWING nomination­s from Bord na nÓg the lists of Managers/Coaches for all teams from U6 to Minor for Boys and for Girls were ratified by the meeting. THE Sub Committee appointed to make recommenda­tions to the Club on Team Management for 2019 put the following before the meeting for considerat­ion: - SENIOR Men - Manager Willie Gormley. Backroom team James Waters, Barnes Kelly, Gareth Phelan and Philip Lang. LADIES Junior team Management - Ken Murtagh and Andrea Dolan. Both recommenda­tions were agreed by the meeting and the Club wish Willie, Ken and Andrea every success in their roles for 2019.

MASSIVE congrats to the Calry/St Joseph’s Scór na nÓg quiz team of Rowan Elliot, Aileen Stenson, Dara Foy and Emma McGoldrick on winning the County Final and qualifying for the All Ireland Final.
