North Sligo AC’s presentation
The annual North Sligo AC Christmas party and awards night for club seniors took place in Langs Restaurant on Saturday night.
It was a night when achievement,commitment and inspiration were recognised and the harvest of the year’s efforts were distributed to those who had earned them.
The club won 4 national masters team medals and six national masters individual medals during the past year,they also won two Connacht crosscountry team medals and three individual medals.
Many athletes from the club set new PBs during the year in many distances,the club populated most of the top positions in the Sligo Road league and the women’s fit for life series.
Eamon McAndrew who represented the club and country in the masters over 40 Irish team was recognised for his achievement in winning individual gold in the national 10k over 40 and silver in the the national half marathon
The North Sligo ironman won male athlete of the year for some sterling performances in the past year in which pain and effort levels were in the red on many occa- sions.
JD Herrity won the most improved athlete breaking his Pbs over 5k and 10k on many occasions during the past year.
The club person of the year was won by Jimmy Currid who travelled far and wide with his wheelbarrow, training for the wheelbarrow races at the IT and raising money for Friends Of Sligo Hospital and North Sligo AC.
The most inspirational athlete was won by Craig Brennan who despite suffering several setbacks and injuries lifted himself from the floor to pull himself back to the top by showing great spirit and tenacity and his never say die attitude.
The overall athlete of the year was won by Aisling Van Rensburg for her consistently good performances over 21 races during the past year.
The athletes kicked up their heels after the dinner and presentations were concluded and danced late into the night.
