21st birthday party key to robbery of woman (79)
VICTIM WAS TARGETED FOR CASH AFTER PARTY
A 21st birthday party is a key part of the Garda investigation in the roberry of an elderly woman at her home in the early hours of last Saturday.
The incident occurred at around 2.30am when an elderly woman living at Carrickbanagher near Colooney was threatened and assaulted by a male intruder.
It is understood a bag was placed over the woman’s head and generally “roughed up.”
The intruder, who was wearing dark clothing, left the house on foot with birthday cards and a large sum of cash which the woman had brought home from a 21st birthday party held earlier in the night in a pub in Ballymote.
She had left the party early and Gardaí believe she was targeted for the cash which she was bringing home as a favour.
The alarm was raised when another family member, who was also at the party, returned home a short time later. The woman was taken to Sligo Univeristy Hospital and treated for injuries described as non life threatening. She was very shook up by the incident.
