‘Sad day for decent families’ as debt cases removed from the master of the High Court

-

‘ ’ THE clipping of the wings of Ed Honohan represents nothing more than a triumph for the banks and vultures’’, Finbarr Filan

RENUA Ireland candidate has warned.

Commenting on the removal of debt cases from the master of the High Court Mr Filan (pictured) said; “Vulture funds across rural Ireland are wetting their beaks.

“The removal of the top Judicial protector of the small farmer has taken away a key barrier to the Tsunami of repossessions poised to race through rural Ireland. “Families and small farmers are now living in fear of vultures perched outside every village and town in rural Ireland. “It is clear Ed Honohan is clearly no longer master in his own court.” Filan went on to say that this is a bad day for families facing mortgage arrears.

“Those who did not like the lash of Mr Honohan’s tongue or the sound of his gavel have struck back.

“This is a bad day for decent families trying to deal with the night-mare of mortgage arrears.”

Mr Filan recognizes that Mr Honohan was that rare creature; a man who was not afraid to speak truth to power.

“Those in debt have had few friends in the courts and in the cabinet.

“They can ill-afford the loss of a dedicated and passionate advocate who was not afraid to take on a Taoiseach if people were not being treated with fairness.

“This unfortunate decision to effectively emasculate the voice of the disempowered is sure to have a chilling effect on others.

“The most serious consequence of all is that it has reduced the capacity of the courts to help those who are victims of Mortgage Arrears through no fault of their own.

“It is a dark day for citizens, courts and those trying to prevent a tsunami of Mortgage repossessions from devastating families, towns, communities and the social housing list’’.
