Murder accused is sent forward for trial

A man charged with murdering his wife has been sent forward for trial to the present sittings of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.

Rafal Karaczyn (32) remains in custody charged with murdering his wife, Natalia Karaczyn (30) at their home at Crozon Park on a date between April 29 th and May 1st 2018.

Her body was recovered in woodland close to the Holy Well Road near Lough Gill on Tuesday 2nd May.

An inquest into her death heard the mother-of-three sustained injuries that were consistent with “external pressure on the neck.”

A doctor concluded that considerin­g the pattern of bruising, sthe victim died from “manual strangulat­ion” and there were “no other contributo­ry factors.”

On Thursday last at Sligo District Court, the defendant was served with a book of evidence in the case which defence solicitor, Ms Laura Spellman applied through the legal aid certificat­e to have translated into Polish.

Judge Kevin Kilrane granted this applicatio­n and also assigned a senior and junior counsel to represent the accused.

The Judge remanded the accused in custody with consent to bail which had been set out in conditions laid down by the HIgh Court following an applicatio­n there on May 31st 2018 but which had not been taken up.

The accused, wearing a hooded top, kept his head bowed for most of his brief court appearance.
