Pedestrian crossing ‘needed’ at IT Sligo engineering dept entrance
A pedestrian crossing is needed for safety purposes on Clarion Road at the entrance to the Engineering Department of IT Sligo, according to Councillor Sinead Maguire.
Cllr. Maguire said: “The population of IT Sligo is growing and with it comes high volumes of pedestrian and vehicle traffic in its environs. The Clarion road is a very busy road, and a large population of students use the exit/entrance from the rear of the Engineering block to access their accommodation in the apartments at Grove/Clarion Village.
“This road is also the main bus route for the Strandhill/Rosses Point buses.”
She added, “The Council needs to examine the feasibility of putting a pedestrian crossing at the exit/entrance to the Engineering block. “Both the student population and general public use this entrance to access the IT campus and to get to the Knocknarea Arena if the overflow carpark adjacent to the hotel is required. She said the lighting in the area also needs to be reviewed for safety purposes. “It has become apparent over the past winter months, that a review of this part of the road is required.
“The lighting in the area, particularly at the entrance from the apartments towards St Edwards National School, also needs to be examined and if improvements are needed the Council will need to act to ensure safety for all pedestrians.”
