NewAlzheim­er Café at the Glasshouse Hotel

A NEW Alzheimer Café for people with dementia, their friends, families and carers met for the first time at the Glasshouse Hotel in Sligo on Thursday, January 17 th at 11am.

Going forward, the Alzheimer Café will be held on the second Thursday of every month (except July & August) at the Glasshouse Hotel from 11am to 1pm.

“The event was attended by 28 people with dementia and their family members. This was a great start to this new initiative,” said Café Coordinato­r Clair Culkin.

“Alzheimer Cafes provide a warm and welcoming space for people with dementia, their family and friends and social and health care profession­als to meet, exchange ideas and learning’s. It’s great that people in Sligo now have this essential service available to them.”

The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland also pro- vides the following services in Sligo:

- Based in Aughamore, Carraroe is a Day Care Centre which is open Monday to Thursday which is run by Michelle McGlone.

- Saturday Day Care which opens the first Saturday of every month.

- Home Care Service, contact Person is Joanne Wynne (071 914 6400) and a very active Sligo Branch Office that do terrific work in the community

- The ASI also operates the Easkey Day Care at Bunowna, Easkey every Friday 10.00am to 3.00pm, contact is Clair Culkin (085 872 0043).

- The ASI also rungs our COGS (CST) Club which runs every Friday from 10.00am-3.00pm in Aughamore and it is facilitate­d by Nuala Scully (071 9146400 / 087 8051286).
