Well done to James Weir, Dónall Hanley and Sligo senior hurling team on their win over Fermanagh and best wishes to them on Sunday next against Leitrim. LADIES:

Our annual Presentation func- tion attracted a large attendance. All the club’s underage teams were amalgamated with St. Patricks for the year gone by, thus ensuring plenty of football for girls of all ages. We are extremely grateful to Sligo and Tourlestrane Ladies star Katie Walsh who took time out to attend as special guest for the event. Katie’s long standing profile as a prolific score getter for club and county has been even further enhanced by her scoring exploits in the recent All-Ireland Junior Club final, especially her brilliantly taken goal which has been receiving much publicity from national media outlets. Her presence was much appreciated and she was presented with a special memento to mark the occasion.

The U-8’s and U-10’s had a very busy year and each player was presented with a goody bag. The U-12’s won the “B” Plate in the league and they were presented with their medals. Individual awards in this category went to Rachel McAndrew for the Most Improved Player and to Maria O’Connell for the Player of the Year.

The U-14’s, who won the “C” League Cup, also received their medals on the night with Amy Boland picking up an award for Most Improved Player and Ciara O’Carroll taking the Player of the Year award.

Meanwhile Hannah Kilcullen and Katie Golden were named Most Improved Player and Player of the Year respectively at U-16. This team finished as League runners up.

As in the past the Minor team saw very little action for the year, an issue which urgently needs addressing if we as an organisation are to be serious about keeping girls playing the game into their adult years. Co. Intermediate panellist Claire Dunne was named Player of the Year in the grade.

After a two year absence, adult football returned to the club again in 2018 with the fielding of a Junior team. The side made a good start to the year and reached the final of the ACL League only to lose to Curry after a tight encounter. The “Player of the Year” award in this grade went to Virginia Mulligan.

Thanks to all who helped out with the food and refreshments which were enjoyed by all.

Congratulations to Jacqui Mulligan on being named the Sligo Intermediate Ladies team captain for the coming year. It is a huge achievement for a player who is now in the twilight of what has been a glittering career in ladies football and comes fifteen years after previously holding the position, when she led her county to an All-Ireland Jnr. Final appearance in Croke Park in 2004. We wish her and her colleagues well in their endeavours.

Congratulations also to Claire Dunne and Rachel O’Brien, students at Coláiste Iascaigh, who both lined out for Connacht in the Post Primary Schools Inter-Provincial championship in Kinnegad recently. Both girls featured prominently throughout what was a hectic schedule of games with Claire having the added honour of being vice-captain of the side. They qualified for the Shield Final of the competition which was played against a backdrop of atrocious weather conditions.

The Mothers and Others group will resume training on the Astro Turf on Thursday February 7th at 8.30 with last year’s trainer Ted Maloney remaining at the helm for another year. New members are welcome and information can be had by contacting Imelda at (087) 9442749.
