Strand Celtic return from 3-0 down

ONE game up for decision in the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League saw Ballymote Celtic at home to Manor Rangers at Brother Walfrid Park.

The game was decided after twenty minutes when Paul Logan cracked home a brilliant effort that in the end secured all three points for the Manor Boys.

The big local Derby game in the Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier league between Benbulben and Cliffoney Celtic saw the game transferre­d to Mullaghmor­e and despite the gale force winds both sides managed to turn in a great display.

Midway through the first half and Bartley Clancy was quick to react and got a toe to nudge the ball into the Benbulben net this in the end proving to be the winner.

Both sides had opportunit­ies to score but it was a day when goalkeeper­s stood tall.

C J Mc Manus in the Cliffoney goals took off some brilliant saves while Luke Walsh in the Benbulben goals was equally outstandin­g.

This win sees Cliffoney Celtic second on the leader board.

Chaffpool United welcomed the Riverstown Masters to Bunninadde­n.

The home side took the lead after twenty-two minutes when Joe Perry converted from the penalty spot and Paul Connolly added a second before half time.

The Pool scored again early in the second half with Conor Prendergas­t finding the back of the onion bag.

Then manager John Scanlon brought on super sub Damien Watters who scored a hat trick that saw the Pool hit the Masters for six.

But despite the score line Enda Foley kept plugging away and scored two minutes from time for the Riverstown Masters.

The T P Brennan Cup and Shield saw a lot of local clubs in action.

One clash saw local sides Aughanagh Celtic at home to Merville United.

Malachy Spratt opened the scoring for Merville United on sixty-five minutes.

Ten minutes from time Niall Feehily added the second goal that now secures Merville United into the last sixteen of the Connacht Cup.

Strand Celtic pulled of a Harry Houdini act away to Tuam Celtic they were losing three nil until goals from Kaillum Burns and Conor Griffin gave them a lifeline.

Deep into injury time Shane McCallion levelled the scores.

Extra time and it was looking like a penalty shoot out would be needed but up stepped Eoin Nicholson to score with the last kick of the game and the seasiders are through to the next round of the competitio­n.

MCR were away to Galway side St Bernard’s and the Green and Whites of MCR struck after one minute. Leading scorer Ryan McManus fired them into the lead.

MCR’s defence were rock solid but five minutes from time St Bernard’s were awarded a penalty but MCR net minder stood tall and took off a brilliant save that see MCR also go through to the next round.

In the T P Brennan Connacht Shield Real Tubber received a walk over from Galway Bohs B while Cartron United thanks to a goal from Brendan Fitzsimmon­s saw their clash away to Partry Athletic eventually go to the dreaded penalty shoot-out which Cartron won.

Gurteen Celtic, Coolaney United and St John’s FC all lost Gurteen going down two goals to nil too away to West United B.

Coolaney played Cam Celtic on the Astro at Cleveragh.

Cathal Davey scoring for Coolaney but Cam with a hat trick from Darren Donnelly and a fourth goal from Gavin Byrne proved too strong. St John’s came from three goals down away to Bearna Na Forbacha to actually lead by the odd goal in seven at one stage. But Bearna Na Forbacha staged a mighty comeback and eventually won by five goals to four.

The Westport and Carbury game was called off due to a bereavemen­t.
