STEPHEN RETURNS HOME
The man who President Michael D Higgins described as ‘a splendid, wonderful, courageous poet’ Stephen Murphy, returns home to the Glens Centre on this Friday night, February 1, where he’ll be joined by an all-star cast for the launch of his poetry collection, ‘From the Sea Hound.’.
The Lurganboy poet has been living in Limerick for the past year, but he says his heart still belongs to the North-West. He says ‘Limerick’s been good to us in so many ways, but Leitrim will always be home. The Glens is the right place to launch it.
‘and the first day of Spring feels like the perfect time to bring new life in to the world. Throw the right people in to the mix and all the makings are there for a magical evening.’.
Supporting him for the event are the Louth musician David Keenan, the singer Noel O’Grady, and fellow Leitrim man and Stockton’s Wing fiddler, Rossinver’s Maurice Lennon, with a few more cameos during the evening.
‘I’m very honoured to be bringing such a wealth of talent to Manorhamilton, but for me it’s about much more than just the performers. The energy that’s cultivated in the Glens Centre when there’s (hopefully) a decent crowd in it is worth its weight in gold.’.
TRACTOR RUN
Heraghty’s Bar recently had a large attendance for the presentation to Michael Gilgunn of a €12,195 cheque, which was the excellent community amount contributed for the New Year’s Day Manorhamilton IFA Tractor Run.
Young Michael Gilgunn from Ramooney was involved in a serious road traffic accident near his home on September 30 and he received acute injuries in it, which requires ongoing treatment.
The New Year’s Day Tractor Run has been an annual local charity event and this year the Manorhamilton IFA Branch decided to allocate the funds raised to assist Michael.
Speaking prior to Sunday night’s presentation Manorhamilton IFA Branch chairperson, Eddie Mitchell thanked everyone who in anyway helped out on the day with the very successful Tractor Run in 126 tractors participated.
Eddie also wished Michael all the best in the future. Leitrim IFA chairperson, James Gallagher also addressed Sunday night’s event in Heraghty’s Bar. He praised Manorhamilton IFA Branch for the outstanding work they do for the local community.’.
