SLIGO features prominiently in Chef Neven Maguire’s RTE series dedicated to seafood.

His journey around Ireland took him to Sligo in episode four of Neven’s Irish Seafood Trails.

Sligo, or ‘Sligeach’ in Irish, means ‘Shelly place’ thus making it the perfect stop for Neven.

In tomorrow night’s show (airing at 8.30pm) he meets Aisling Kelly of the Sligo Oyster Experience, and she takes Neven on a tour from Wild Atlantic Oysters, an oyster farm in Sligo Bay, to Sligo town where she demonstrates the versatile ways in which oysters can be cooked.

Sligo is also home to the Eala Bahn restaurant where Neven meets owner Anthony Gray, another champion of the Sligo food scene.

A little further up the coast is the picturesque village of Mullaghmore, renowned for its local lobsters and crabs.

Chef Eithna O’Sullivan of Eithna’s By The Sea shares her recipe for Spiced Lobster with sea spaghetti, and as it’s a beautiful day, Eithna cooks outdoors on Mullaghmore Pier.

Further south in Strandhill, Neven visits Voya Seaweed Baths where owner Neil Walton has successfully revived an Irish coastal tradition.

Neil and Neven head to the stunning local beach where Neil demonstrates how to harvest wild, organic seaweed suitable for a rejuvenating seaweed bath.

This week Neven cooks a delicious trout and crab ravioli.

Neven’s Irish Seafood Trails is produced and directed by David Hare for InproductionTV and is sponsored by BORD BIA.

Neven’s Irish Seafood Trails is his first series dedicated to seafood.
