Construction time of 22 months
DEPUTY McLoughlin has welcomed the final announcement of funding for the N4 project which comes after many years of hard work and lobbying, he says.
“This €100 Million road upgrade will improve road safety to people accessing the NW and it will enable the continued economic development of Sligo as the capital of the NW under Ireland 2040 Plan. Today, we must also remember all those who lost their lives on this dangerous stretch of road”.
Councillor Marie Casserly paid tribute to the N4 Action group and Sligo County Council and all public representatives past and present who “have lobbied and worked tirelessly for improvements and upgrades to be carried out and for keeping it on top of the agenda for many years.”
“The number of road fatalities will be reduced, inter urban journey times will be reduced, public transport will be improved and of course there will be improved road conditions for pedestrians and cyclists alike,” she said.
Director of Services with the Council Tom Kilfeather said: “We expect to sign a contract for the construction of the road in the coming weeks with the estimated time frame for the construction being 22 months”.
