‘Don’t drink or you will go to prison’

A District Court judge has told a 38-year-old man he will go to prison if he consumes alcohol.

Bartosz Grobelski of 11, Curlew View, Boyle, Co Roscommon appeared before Sligo District Court where it was heard the man had been previously disqualifi­ed from driving for 15 years in 2012.

He was detected driving at Rathmadder, Gurteen, on May 30 th, 2017. Grobelski was charged with seven road traffic offences on the date, including no insurance, non display of insurance, non display of NCT, driving without a licence and failure to produce a driving licence.

A Probation Report furnished to the court outlined that Grobelski had attended a treatment centre for one month for his alcohol issues.

Addressing the court, the man’s partner said Grobelski understood alcohol was bad for him and it was the first time he has sought help. He was remanded on bail to April 4 th next in order to monitor his progress. Judge Kevin Kilrane told him that if he touches alcohol in the meantime he will be ‘sentencing’ himself.
