Supporters Trust hosts 2019 season launch

-

THE Bit O’Red Supporters Trust will host a 2019 season launch event this Friday night at Anderson’s Bar and Grill.

The event kicks off at 8pm and all are invited along for what promises to be a great night.

The MC for the night will be Austin O’Callaghan, Sports Editor of OceanFM.

The evening will have something for all supporters to enjoy.

THe event will start with the Heritage society taking you down memory lane and explaining the story behind some of the club’s historical memorabilia.

Next there will be a slight twist as we discuss “Reporting on Rovers” looking at pre and post social media/internet reporting of Rovers with Jim Gray (formerly Sligo Champion) Jessica Farry & David Goulden.

The next segment of the event will include legends such as Alan Keane, Anthony Elding and others ...let the lads talk you through the story behind footage we will show on the night and a few tales from behind the dressing room door and to wrap it all up Liam Buckley will introduce your squad for 2019 season.

Fundraising by the trust has led to new hospitality facilities being installed at The Showgrounds.

Modular buildings, similar to those currently in use at the ground for offices, are being installed and earmarked for use in hosting supporters, visitors and social gatherings. The buildings have been purchased by the Trust through their fundraising activities.

Forthcoming events held by the supporters group will be used to furnish the building.

Sligo Rovers chairman Martin Heraghty said: “Every Sligo Rovers fan is proud of The Showgrounds, not just in appearance, but in the facilities we have that serve our club and our community.

“We do our very best to maintain the ground and improve it. Understandably, so much of our resources are tied up in the dayto-day running of the club, and likewise the fundraising for the club is geared towards it. It simply has to be or we wouldn’t be able to function.

“There is no doubt that one of the things we have been lacking is hospitality areas. We have many visitors to the ground, especially on match day, and we have been crying out for a new facility to host receptions and events.”
