CONCERT FOR YEMEN

A concert for Yemen will be held in Kilmactigu­e Community Centre on Saturday night February 23, starting at 8.15 p.m. The proceeds of the concert will go to doctors without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières MSF who work in Yemen despite the fact that a civil war is raging for the last five years. There are so many deaths from cholera and starvation as well as from the war. Please attend if you can. Mai Kennedy is involved in organising this concert and her sister Evelyn worked in Yemen for several years. The talent on the night is homegrown (for the most part).

LEAVING CERT IRISH ORAL REVISION.

There will be a Leaving Cert Irish Oral Revision Course on Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. in Banada. Junior and Leaving cert Irish courses will be from July 22 to July 26 and July 29 to August 2 in Banada, contact Siobhán at 087 4510572.

INDOOR COUNTRY MARKET

Drummartin Indoor Country Market (9km from Tubbercurr­y out on the Ballina Road besides Joe Dan’s Pub) is open from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. every Saturday. Along with the usual great selection of local produce and crafts they are also introducin­g ‘zero waste’ rice, oats and flour – bring your own container and pay by weight. PHOENIX PLAYERS

Rehearsals are now in full swing for the Phoenix Players’ forthcomin­g production of ‘The Sound of Music’ to be staged on 29th, March 30 and 31 and third, fourth, April 5 and six. Production Director Tom Walsh has assembled a cast of eighty, ranging in ages from eight to 80 from all over South Sligo. Tickets will go on sale at the end of the month, so watch this space.

BLOOD DONATION CLINIC

There will be a Blood Donation Clinic in St Brigid’s Hall, Tubbercurr­y on Thursday, February 7, from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. As always, the demand for blood continues and every possible donation is desperatel­y needed. Injured and sick people live because other people give. Blood is life and giving some is one of the greatest gesture of love and care that most people will ever have chance to avail of.
