SLIGO MEATH 1-03 1-13

SLIGO Ladies remain at the bottom of the National Football League Division 3 after their 10 point defeat to Meath in Cloonacool Community Park.

This was the re-arranged fixture after their game was initially postponed due to snow.

The visitors to Cloonacool stated their intent early on, and with 20 minutes gone they were ahead by four points to Sligo’s single point.

They stretched their lead by a further point before the vital cog in Sligo’s wheel, Katie Walsh, netted before the half hour mark to bring her side within a point of the visitors.

Meath continued to attack and got a goal of their own through Kelsey Nesbitt, who also scored two points to add to her tally on the day.

Trailing 1-08 to 1-02 at the half way mark, the hosts had work to do, but knew a result wasn’t beyond them.

Sligo could only score one more point for the duration of the game, with Meath adding five more thanks to Nesbitt, Annie Moffatt, Stacey Grimes and Shauna Ennis.

This Saturday, Sligo travel to Down for the third round of the competition, where they will be hoping to pick up something, before they host Wicklow in March.

They know that they will have a job on their hands to move up the table to get out of danger, but with only two games played so far in the league, there is no need to push the panic button just yet.
