Carbury make it ten from ten

CARBURY made it ten wins from ten with a scintilating display against Glenview Stars in Sean Fallon Park in Cranmore on Sunday

arbury continue to lead the way in The Sligo Southern Hotel Super League.

Glenview Stars enjoyed a great win the previous week against Ballymote Celtic and were expected to give the reigning champions a run for their money.

However, it was not to be with the Stars on the end of the blazing fire power of a rampant Carbury who hit nine goals without reply. Stars’ case was not helped when Darren Melly received his marching orders, but in truth on the day Carbury were in devastating form. Gary Armstrong was the main provider hitting four goals with a goal each from Colm Jinks, Aaron Murrin, Gareth Kelly, Mark Mc Goldrick and Gary Finan leaving manager Adrian Conlon and staff in winning mode.

Strand Celtic in second place welcomed Ballisodare United to the Strandhill seaside on a blustery morning.

Strand Celtic took the lead after 15 minutes when Conor Griffin slotted home from the edge of the box. Ballisodare equalised ten minutes from half time when Roly Anderson followed up after Andrew Patton’s shot had hit the post.

One minute after the restart Strand went ahead after Declan Brennan got on the end of a cross from Kaillum Burns and finished brilliantly to the back of the Ballisodare net. Ballisodare continued to press forward with serious pressure applied for the last twenty minutes in search of that elusive equaliser, Strand held tight for a vital if somewhat fortunate win that sees them occupy second spot in the table, level on points with Carbury albeit with four games more played.

Following in hot pursuit is MCR who travelled to Brother Walfrid Park to take on Ballymote Celtic.

Adam Devaney opened the account for MCR on twenty minutes and on fourteen minutes the sides were level when Colm Duffy cracked home the equaliser for Ballymote Celtic.

Celebrations were short lived when Steven Armstrong restored order to leave MCR ahead at the break.

MCR certainly upped the tempo in the second half with Ciaran Harvey and leading scorer Ryan McManus each scoring a goal and on the stroke of full time Steven Armstrong scored his second of the game to leave MCR in a very strong position on the leader board.

Aughanagh Celtic hosted Manorhamilton Rangers at Ballinafad it what was a high scoring encounter.

Aughanagh emerged victors in an eight-goal feast. John and Stephen Craig aided and abetted with a goal each from Paul McTiernan, Conor Mc Padden and Marcus Guckian were the hitmen for Aughanagh Celtic. Manor replied with goals from Alan Hickey and Seamus Ryder. Cartron United once again pulled off their Houdini act in the Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier league top of the table clash at the Ray MacSharry complex where they entertained North Sligo pace setters Cliffoney Celtic. Jason Brennan gave Cliffoney Celtic the lead on thirty minutes, a lead they held until the 61st minute when Donal Gallagher cracked home the equaliser. Then just like last week when all seemed lost, two minutes from time up stepped poacher supreme Joe Kilcullen to steal all three points for the still unbeaten Cartron United who once again proved the old saying, the game is never over until the final whistle blows.

St Johns travelled to Grange where they emerged winners against the home side Benbulben FC.

Conor Brennan hit the first of his two goals on fifty minutes with Paddy Watters levelling matters twenty minutes from time. But two minutes into injury time, Conor Brennan hit his second goal and it proved to be a glorious winner for a jubilant St Johns.

In the big local derby game in South Sligo, Chaffpool United were at home to Real Tubber in what was always going to be a tight affair.

The Pool took the lead from the penalty spot on thirty minutes when Joe Perry fired home from the penalty spot.

Two minutes into the second half and the game was level when Matthew Mulhern scored the equaliser. A draw looked on the cards but a minute from full time Real Tubber were awarded a free kick as Dylan Henry rose high in the Pool penalty area to head powerfully home and take all three points for the Tubber Boys.

Manager Michael Hynes saw his young guns take all three points at home to Riverstown Masters hitting three without reply. Stephen Feeney scored twice and Evan Kilrehill added the third.
