The Ultimate Big Band Show is a collection of musicians who develop a set list of compositions from the heyday of the big band era, modern day composers and original compositions that really does merit the title ‘ The Ultimate Big Band Show’.
Being a 20-piece strong orchestra the sound and energy that this collective creates is electric. Directed by the saxophonist ‘Daire O’Reilly’ and developed by Harper Lane Studios (www.harperlanestudios.ie) this outfit plays compositions from such legendary artists as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Buddy Rich, Weather Report, Charles Mingus, Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong, The Rat Pack, Alison Moyet, Michael Buble and much more.
The Ultimate Big Band Show boasts many great musicians such as Gene Bannon (The Times Show Band), Pat Glynn (The Dixie King Jazz Band), Bobby Lynch (The Hot House Big Band, Route 66), Paul Cox (C60, The Fireflys) and many more.
Having played such gigs as ‘ The Electric Picnic’, toured many theatres around Ireland and having played with such legends as Paddy Cole, John O’Grady (The night Joe Dolans car broke down) and Brendan MaCahey (winner of the voice of Ireland) The Ultimate Big Band Show really knows how to put on a great night’s entertainment.
The Ultimate Big Band Show promotes great music and great fun, this is a show not to be missed.
THE ESSENTIALS OF CRANMORE
A community exhibition by residents of Cranmore will open at The Model on Wednesday, February 21st.
Led by artist Ken Gunning, residents and participants provided a generous hospitable insight into their community through the lens of photography.
Themes of belonging, place and space were explored through a number of workshops.
Through the process members of the community journeyed from behind the lens to uncover and realise how photography can be a means of sociability and creativity.
This project is sponsored by Sligo Leader, Cranmore Community CO OP, Cranmore Regeneration and International Fund for Ireland.
BIG MAGGIE
Sligo Drama Circle returns with a revival of their 2016 production of John B Keane’s classic drama Big Maggie at The Hawk’s Well on Wednesday February 27 th until Saturday March 2nd.
