YOUTH ASSEMBLY

Well done to local girl Maireád Conway, who participat­ed in the Youth Assembly in the Dáil on climate change recently. Maireád joined 156 other young Irish people representi­ng all 26 counties who sat in the seats of their TDs to focus and debate on climate change. Who Knows – Maireád may have warmed the seat for a future stint in the house.

FUN QUIZ NIGHT

Coolaney-Mullinabre­ena GAA are hosting their annual Quiz Night on Saturday, November 30, in the Happy Landing Coolaney at 9.30 p.m. There is a change of format this year with lots of novel, fun rounds to appeal to a wider audience. Great cash prizes, spot prizes and raffle on the night. Great entertainm­ent assured. All support appreciate­d.

CLUB AGM

The Coolaney-Mullinabre­ena GAA Club AGM will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2020, in Coolaney Community Centre at 6 p.m. All members are welcome to attend. Please contact secretary Eugene if your are interested in getting involved with the club for the coming year.

COMMUNITY GROUP

The Community Group are asking people to keep an eye out for litter. This is a big problem on some roads in the area so please pick it up if it’s near your house and don’t wait for someone else to lift it. If there is a large amount dumped, report it to the Sligo litter warden at 087 1778735.

We have three Gaisce Students from the area helping the group at the minute. Aisling Feely, Laoise Gannon and Diarmuid Henry are kept busy with bulb planting, art work and sorting photos.

Thank you to the local business people living in the area who took part and planted bulbs along their own roads. ST NATHY’S LADIES

Hard luck to St Nathy’s Ladies, who were defeated in the all-Ireland Club Intermedia­te semi-final recently. The club AGM takes place on Tuesday, November 26, in Bunninadde­n Community Centre at 9 p.m.

TRACTOR RUN

St Nathy’s Ladies will be hosting a Christmas Tractor and Vintage Run on Sunday, December 8. Registrati­on is from 11 a.m. with the Run commencing at 12. There will be a mini tractor run at 11.30 a.m. for our younger drivers. This will be a Christmas themed run with lots of prizes to be won on the day, including a prize for ‘Pimp my Tractor’ and a visit from a very special someone. Please come out and show your support.

KNOCKNASHE­E TALK

Cormac McSparron and Dirk Brandherm of THE KNOCK NA SHEE PROJECT have been in contact and wish to return to St Nathy’s Hall for a talk about their work on Knocknashe­e regarding their findings during the excavation along with their plans for 2020. CHURCH VOLUNTEERS

The Mullinabre­ena Church Altar Society are looking for volunteers from the parish to help with the upkeep of the parish church.

BLUE KIDZ NURSERY

Predecease­d by her son Brendan, she is survived by her husband John, sons Joe, John and Rory – daughters – in-law Helen and Olivia – Rory’s partner Karen, grandchild­ren – Tanya, Dylan, Jason, Elie Mai, Tommy, Katelyn, and Eoghan – brothers and sisters, relations and many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May she rest in peace.

THE death took place on November 13 at Sligo University Hospital of Maura Horan née Brett, Killavil. A popular member of the community she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was sister of Philomena Molloy, Moygara.

Predecease­d by her husband Val she is survived by her daughter Helena, her son – in-law, Tony, her grandchild­ren, Laura, Niall and Liam and her sister Phil, sister – in-law Pauline Brett, nieces and nephews and all her relations and many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended May she rest in peace.

CINEMA CLUB

BINGO

Gurteen Bingo takes place every Friday night at 8.30 p.m. in the hall. Proceeds are shared between Eastern Harps GAA Club and the hall committee towards the upkeep of the hall. There is €2,600 of a jackpot on 47 calls and a lotto raffle of €300. Support is always greatly appreciate­d.

TIDY TOWNS RAFFLE

Gurteen Tidy Towns Christmas raffle for Christmas lights. Tickets on sale at €2 each or three for €5 with 10 great prizes. Support would be greatly appreciate­d.

SOCIAL DANCING

NEW BOOK

A new book written by Joe Keane a native of Moygara, Gurteen now resident in Hollymount, Co. Mayo named ‘The Slopes of Mullaghate­e’ will be launched in the Hill Hotel, Gurteen on Monday night, December 2, at 7 p.m. A well written book with more than two hundred pages covering memories from around Gurteen – Joe’s memories of his childhood area in the 1950s and 60’s with some very interestin­g articles such as ‘The Blizzard of 1947’ Immigratio­n – Rural Electricif­ication the FCA ‘ – Mitching from School’ and many more. All are welcome to come to the launch.
