Curry playground could be closed

- BY JESSICA FARRY

The gates of Curry Playground could be closed from tomorrow ( Wednesday) unless insurance cover is successfully obtained at the 11 th hour.

The current insurance policy, which has covered the playground since it opened last December, runs out tomorrow, and finding suitable cover has proved difficult.

The Curry/Moylough playground group have been working tirelessly since September to try and find cover after the company insuring them pulled out of the Irish market.

Contact has been made with several other insurance companies, including a number who cover other playgrounds, but no resolution has been found as of yet.

No insurance companies were willing to even offer a quote for the playground, with the previous insurers the only ones coming through with a quote last year.

It’s understood that no claims have been made against the playground since its opening last Christmas.

The group behind the playground made contact with PALI, Play Activity and Leisure Ireland, who have been able to secure insurance for several companies under group policies.

The Curry and Moylough Playground group were then informed that it would not be possible to obtain insurance under the PALI group umbrella.

A spokesperson for the South Sligo based playground told The Sligo Champion: “We’ve not had any claims or anything so everything on our end is fine. “It’s nothing we have done. “The timing is really unfortunate and it might be closed for Christmas which is a shame.”

The committee are holding out hope, and are praying there’s a Christmas miracle of sorts.

At the time of going to print, they were waiting to hear back from companies who they had made contact with regarding insurance.
