Successful year of athletics ends on a high
THE annual North Sligo AC presentation and Christmas party night for seniors took place on Friday night in Langs restaurant Grange
John McDermott Sligo AC world indoor 400m over 75 champion was the guest of honour at the dinner.
John spoke on wellness and nutrition and presented the various prizes.
It was a night when the hard work and big efforts during the past year were recognised and rewarded with medals and trophies. It was a year when a big number of athletes from the club set personal bests over varying distances.
The club’s female athlete of the year was won for the 2nd year in a row by Aisling Van Rensburg who won many races during the past year and took gold in the over 35 category in the national half marathon. Eamon McAndrew took the club’s overall athlete of the year with some outstanding performances including gold in the over 40 category in the national half marathon and another super effort and PB in the national marathon.
Fiona Hennigan won the most improved club athlete of the year, award breaking her PBs for 5k, 10k, half marathon and a superb effort and PB in the national marathon of 3hours 7 mins.
Viera Stupakova won the club person of the year,the hard working club secretary has done tremendous work behind the scenes.
Secretaries are seldom recognised for their sometimes unnoticed work,but for her work ethic and work rate for the club Viera was chosen as North Sligo AC club person of the year.
Proceedings continued long after the dinner was finished and many discovered that they could move better on the road or track than they could on the dance floor!
