RIVERSTOWN LIGHTS

Thank you to everyone that came out came out for the official lighting of the Christmas Lights in Riverstown and to Mrs McTiernan for braving the terrible weather to switch them on. There was a great turnout despite the weather and even had some carol singing from the children of the local schools. Thank you also to Fr AB O’Shea for blessing this event. Once again thank you to everyone who contribute­d either money or their time to this event and to Sligo County Council, who helped get the ball rolling. Hopefully we have started something that will grow yearly in the village. And or course a huge thank you to Santa for coming.

CHRISTMAS SWIM

The 19th annual Lough Arrow Christmas Day Swim in aid of North West Hospice takes place at 1 p.m. at Brick Pier (Flynn’s pier via Ballindoon). Please support participan­ts as generously as ever. For more informatio­n please call Mary Moran at 086 8733485.

RIVERSTOWN PARK

Riverstown Community Park Committee would like to thank the McDermott Family and all involved in organising the sponsored cycle/walk in memory of Tommy. Thank you to all who contribute­d. Work in the park will commence in the New Year.

COMMUNITY LIBRARY

Please support the Community Library in the Sligo Folk Park. All are welcome to drop in and avail of borrowing some beautiful books for both adults and children.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS

All are welcome to a Christmas Carol Service in Sligo Cathedral on Sunday, December 22, at 8.15 p.m. The service will feature the Sligo Cathedral Choir with Organist Charles O’Connor.

SOCIAL CLUB

Sligo Folk Park Social Club continues every Wednesday morning 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Riverstown. New members are very welcome.

LIP SYNC BATTLE

St Michael’s GAA will host a Christmas Lip Sync Battle on Sunday, December 29. Ten acts will take to the stage in castle.

Dargan Hotel in an action packed night. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and admission is €15. There will be a monster raffle and a great night is promised.

SEAN NÓS DANCING CLASSES

Children’s sean nós Dancing classes with Bróga Bríomhar Dance School taught by all-Ireland Champion dancer Eiméar Mulvey will take place in Ballintogh­er Community Hall. Classes start on Wednesday, January 22, for a six-week term. Beginner Children’s classes 7.15 to 7.45 p.m. Intermedia­te Children’s classes 7.45 to 8.15 p.m. There are limited places available. GLEANN REUNION

A reunion and book launch rememberin­g Gleann school will be held on Sunday, April 12, next year in Castledarg­an, Ballygawle­y. The committee are hoping that past pupils will let family, friends and the neighbours know. This is going to be a very memorable evening.

There is an on-going collection of stories, poems, articles, photos and memorabili­a relating to Gleann school and surroundin­g areas. Additional articles, photos etc are still very welcome and especially those of Gleann Hall and church.

The committee are hoping the book will be as inclusive as possible and capture a wide range of perspectiv­es from the local community.
