A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY – Ballinalac­k Community Park’s Christmas Social Night will take place in Parry’s Tavern on Saturday, December 21. Music by Michael McDonald. Tony and Amy and family with John Normanly saving turf on Ballincurr­y Bog 2019, and Cllr Connolly and Malachy Maher canvassing votes during the local election 2019. Many people attended the launch of this exhibition which records our local heritage and history.

A well written book with more than two hundred pages covering memories from around Gurteen – Joe’s memories of his childhood area in the 1950s and 60’s with some very interestin­g articles such as ‘The Blizzard of 1947’ Immigratio­n – Rural Electricif­ication the FCA ‘ – Mitching from School’ and many more. A great read this would make an ideal Christmas Gift and it is available in Christy O’Grady’s shop in Gurteen.

Joe is grateful to all his friends old and new who came to the launch and to everyone who helped him in any way to get this book completed and on the shelves. Well done.
