‘Positive’ report on Shamrock Rovers supporter
A 24-year-old Shamrock Rovers supporter who was charged with public order offences arising out a match played at The Showgrounds on May 4 th last had his case further adjourned at Sligo District Court after Judge Kevin Kilrane noted a very positive probation report.
The case against Dylan Stenson, with an address at Newtown Lawns, Mullingar had been adjourned from a previous sitting to allow for the preparation of a probation report.
He had pleaded guilty to being intoxicated and using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.
Sergeant Derek Butler said he was quite abusive to other stewards. At the end of the game a section of the Shamrock Rovers fans were abusive towards stewards and gardaí. Gardaí observed Stenson intentionally hit a reserve garda with his shoulder.
He was brought onto the pitch and said that all gardaí were stupid pigs and other obscenities at gardaí. Stenson refused initially to give his details but eventually did.
Last Thursday, Judge Kilrane described the probation report as very positive. The defendant, who had two previous convictions, said he was doing well and was working as a labourer.
Judge Kilrane said the defendant had a number of difficulties including mental health issues.
“The report is particularly impressive and I’m going to adjourn this to October 1st and if there’s nothing further I will apply the Probation Act,” he said. He also ordered the defendant to have €500 in court on that date.
