History beckons once more for Grange PPS
THEY made history last year for Grange PPS as the school’s U19s became the first ever side to win a Connacht title.
On Thursday, the North Sligo school U19s once more reached the FAI Schools Senior C Connacht decider.
They booked their place in the final with an emphatic 7-1 home victory over Charlestown, last year’s opponents in the final.
The Grange lads tore out of the blocks superbly - man of the match Evan McDonald first finished excellently with his left foot, and then from outside the box with his right.
Marc Heraghty added to the tally with a fantastic drive through the Charlestown defence - all within the first 8 minutes.
Charlestown then came back into the game but the Grange defence and midfield handled them well.
John Heraghty then added to the score sheet before Charlestown scored a great free kick before the break.
The second half started similar to the first. Joe Keaney started the scoring as Evan McDonald finished off his hattrick and Josh Fallon came off the bench to also get on the score sheet. Aaron Kenny made a fantastic save from another Charlestown freekick after replacing Daniel O’Connor in goals. Shane O’Boyle, Oisín McGloin and Ewan Gillen Davis all came close with chances also, along with captain Sam Carton. A superb performance from 1-19, playing some great football throughout the game. Confident on the ball and calm at the back, a great indication of a strong performance in the upcoming final v Swinford. Date and venue TBC. The schools U17s are also in Connacht final semi-final action this week.
