Ladies captain in plea for people to be vigilant
WITH Ireland coming to grips with the Covid-19 outbreak, many sports stars are taking to social media to encourage people, and in particular younger people to adhere to the guidelines to help curtail the spread of coronavirus.
Among those urging people to be extremely careful is Sligo ladies captain Nicola Brennan.
In a video posted on Facebook, the Tourlestrane woman said that now the Covid-19 or coronavirus is here, we need to protect ourselves and more importantly the vulnerable people around us.
Nicola, who runs her own fitness company, said that we need to slow the spread of the virus, by washing hands often for at least 20 seconds, covering your mouth when coughing and discarding tissues after you sneeze.
“Stop hugging or shaking hands and as we all know, the big nights out and the big nights in are cancelled.
“Work from home if you can. We can all work together for older people and others.”
Nicola advised people to stay at home and if you are showing any symptoms to stay in their homes and seek advice.
The Sligo captain was also posting handy fitness videos for people to keep their fitness levels up during the pandemic.
She added it was important that during the outbreak that people maintain their fitness in these challenging times.
Meanwhile clubs around the county were doing their own bit to keep players and coaches busy during the pandemic.
Among those was St Nathy’s who got players active with a 50 touch challenge.
Players were tagging each other to keep the challenge going.
St Nathys U14s and U16s were also busy doing the challenge..
It began with the U14 management team setting the challenge to their players and they then posted videos as they have been nominated with even parents and the clubs teams from U12s to Senior getting in on the act. The point of the exercise was to see if players could get 50 touches within a minute. A novel way to have some fun when people are at home during this crisis.
