€9,000 STOP DONATION

The annual John O’Rourke Memorial Tractor, which took place in Glenfarne on Sunday, March 8, raised an excellent sum of €9,000 for STOP, the local suicide prevention charity.

Paying tribute to this outstanding fundraiser a very pleased spokesperson for STOP said ‘we are still awaiting the final figure as there are more donations being received but we are so amazed, thankful and proud of the incredible support and generosity of so many people in the farming community and everyone else who supported.

‘Anyone with more photos, please feel free to send them on; we have a video to follow too. But for now, we want to extend a huge thank you to the brave and wonderful family of John O’Rourke.

‘We also want to thank Linda Slevin and Kevin McGovern for kindly sponsoring all the food for the event. Thanks are extended to all our spot prizes sponsors and to Lorna Thompson, who donated a fabulous cake for the day. Well done to everyone involved and to all the organisers.’.

WATER SCHEME

Due to the coronavirus national health emergency the Management Committee of Glenboy/ Glenfarne Group Water Scheme (GWS) has decided to postpone its forthcoming AGM, which was planned to take place on Tuesday night, March 31, in the Rainbow Ballroom, till further notice.

Meantime the Glenboy/Glenfarne GWS will, as always, continue to supply members with a safe and reliable water supply. Members with non-domestic connections (mostly agricultural) are reminded that the annual fixed charge falls due from Wednesday, April 1.

All Glenboy/Glenfarne GWS members can contact the Scheme’s secretary by emailing glenboy.glenfarne.waterscheme@gmail.com or phoning 083 1131169.

ST CLARE’S CHURCH WORKS

Major works in Manorhamilton’s St Clare’s Church and grounds are currently at the planning stage and it is hoped these works will be carried out in June.

To defray the expenses of these works a St Clare’s Church Development Fund has been set up. St Clare’s Church parishioners are asked to contribute an extra €25 per quarter to the Development Fund.

For this purpose a manila coloured envelope has been included for each parishioner in their annual box of church envelopes donations. The current St Clare’s Church was built in 1885.
