Brian’s online kitchen table quiz was a big hit
WITH pretty much everyone now spending 24/7 in their homes, the whole interactive world of social media is playing a major role in keeping people connected virtually.
There have been some extremely novel and humorous videos doing the rounds of people from all corners of the globe, including celebrities, keeping themselves entertained amid the understandable fear in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
From sports stars training at home to Arnold Schwarzenegger feeding his pet donkey and pony at the kitchen table, there are plenty of humorous videos out there to quell the doom and gloom.
It’s a time for communities to come together right across the county and indeed the country.
Once such area that was definitely embracing the staying at home yet staying connected on Tuesday night last was Lough Arrow and its surrounding parishes.
Local photographer Brian Farrell was the quizmaster of the Lough Arrow Kitchen Table Quiz which lasted just under the hour and covered topics all based on the area. People were joining the Facebook live video from all over the world with families encouraged to compete against each other in what was a fun way to spend an evening.
With questions ranging from sport, history, place names to the local bus drivers, there was a lot of head scratching on some of the trickier ones.
Brian said that he was so amazed by the numbers that joined that he’s continuing with another quiz this evening. He said: “I was expecting a few from around the lake, as the questions were all geared towards our community here, I had no idea we would have people tuning in from London, Luxembourg, Australia, Malibu, New York, Florida, Portland, Boston, nearly every county in Ireland, Ballyfarnon, Boyle and Ballinameen.
“So, thank you all very much. “I’m going to do it all again next Tuesday, same time, same place, finished in time for the nine O’Clock News.
“This time, at the end of each round, I’m going to have a children’s question. I got a lot of photos sent to me of young families sitting around on floors and couches and arm chairs with pen and paper. So the sixth question in each round will be geared towards national school children. It will be a 5 pointer, grown ups can’t answer it and it should keep the children in competition against their “know all” parents.
“I’ ll tweak another couple of things too, I’ ll have a few questions which might travel further than the lake and be of interest to the people who tuned in last night. To be honest, it will still be pitched at the lake community and its diaspora.
“But don’t let that put you off. On Tuesday, March 31st at 8pm you will all be welcome back to the Kitchen Table Quiz in Arrow Lodge.”
