CASTLECONNOR LOTTO

There was no winner of the €24,600 jackpot, numbers drawn were 2, 8, 32 and 39. No jackpot winner, lucky-dip winners were Bernie Naughton, Marie and Michael Cahill and Louise Kilcullen; next week’s jackpot is €24,700.

Due to spreading of Covid-19 virus, the club has taken the decision to make the following changes to our weekly lotto. We make this decision to protect our lotto volunteers in these difficult times.

We will not be offering cash purchases for our lotto draw till further notice. Anyone wishing to be included in the draw will have to buy their ticket online or be the owner of an annual lotto Ticket. There will be no envelopes left in shops/pubs etc. The lotto Box in these premises will contain a note instead with a link to our online lotto. There will be a phone number on each box that can be texted and we will reply with a link allowing online lotto. The draw will be carried out online starting on March 21 It will be witnessed by at least two members from the club lotto volunteers. A video will be made of the draw and this will be shared online.

We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause. We urge people to continue to support our lotto. This is what keeps our club running. Our online lotto can be purchased at game.smartlotto.ie/

We are in unchartered territory in modern times with the appearance of the COVID-19 virus on these shores. Castleconnor GAA is about more than just sport. The club is the centre of the community and we have a role to play to help those most vulnerable to this virus.

The club would like to offer our assistance to anyone in our community that needs help or assistance, whether it be to collect something from the shop, pharmacy or any other help. If help is needed please contact us on this email (secretary.castleconnor.sligo@gaa.ie) or this number 087 6854413, contact us here on Facebook or alternatively contact any club executive member. Working together we can get through this difficult time.

An important message to younger people in our club. It is true that this virus is less damaging to most young people. However, young people can carry this virus and spread it to others. This means that you too must take the precautions above, if not for your own safety, for the safety of people that are more vulnerable like the Elderly, people undergoing cancer treatment, people with lung disease, people with heart problem, Cystic Fibrosis etc. We all know at least one person in this category, let’s work together to keep them safe.

All in Castleconnor GAA were sad to hear of the passing of Madeline Tuffy. The Tuffy family have been massive supporters of the club for many years and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Tom, Kenny, Jennifer, Lorraine and Michelle. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

EOGHAN RUA LADIES

The club would like to extend deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Madeline Tuffy. With strong connections to the club, she was a regular supporter at both her daughter’s and grand-daughters games.

We would also like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Paddy Murray, who passed away earlier in the week. May he Rest in peace.

AMATEUR DRAMATIC SOCIETY

Last week has been an especially tough one for members of the drama group on hearing of the passing of Madeline Tuffy.

Madeline was an avid supporter of drama in the parish as well as all other community activity, and was always ready and willing to help out the group backstage.

The group extends sincere sympathy to our members Tom, Fidelma and Lauren, who were all involved in our most recent productions.

We also extend our sympathy to the entire Tuffy family, their neighbours and their many friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis. has always been at the heart of the community. In these unprecedented times with the spread of Covid-19, we want to reassure those in all corners of our parish that the club is here to help in whatever way it can.

We are hoping to formulate a plan in the coming days, alongside local business owners, to make sure that no one in our community is forgotten and that those who need a helping hand get it. It could be as simple as collecting shopping so the vulnerable don’t have to leave their homes, or lending a listening ear over the phone. Whatever you need, we will do all we can to help. We’re here to help during these difficult times. We’re stronger together.

We would like o offer any person in our parish that is self-isolating because of the Covid19 virus outbreak the opportunity to get you day to day essentials without the need for you to leave your home,

Here’s how to go about it: If you want to make contact with any of the businesses below, conduct your business with them over the phone. The chosen business will contact a club representative. A club member will collect your essentials and drop them to your door. No charge, no waiting no direct contact if you so wish.

KILGLASS KIDETS

During this uncertain climate that we all have to endure, Caroline is in a position to offer her childcare services to those who need it.

You can be rest assured that Kilglass Kidets will be adhering to strict guidelines from the HSE and Childminding Ireland. Please contact Caroline at 087 9717623 for further information.

ENNISCRONE TIDY TOWNS

Please don’t climb the Dunes Sligo County Council has erected fencing on the slopes of Cnoc na gCorp, Enniscrone’s largest sand dune to protect it from erosion. Please refrain from climbing it.

Sligo County Council believes this is the best method necessary to protect this major dune. In the last year or so a once narrow pathway to the top has become more of a three meter wide highway devoid of the marram grass needed to hold the dune intact. Without the marram grass the dune has become a victim of wind erosion and people pushing more and more sand downwards as they scramble to the top and when coming down. The height of the dune has decreased considerably over the past year.

The purpose of the fencing is to protect the dune by: preventing people from climbing it; retaining windblown sand; and hopefully allowing the marram grass to regenerate.

The dunes of Enniscrone are a special wildlife habitat conservation area so please avoid the dunes and stick to the beach.

THE PIG IS BLACK

The Black Pig has a fresh coat of paint and is standing boldly on the way into Enniscrone. Unfortunately he was maliciously damaged just before Christmas and repairs etc were curtailed by inclement weather – but he is now back and looking defiant.

The Black Pig is empty and contains no money so hopefully he can be left alone in future. Break-ins are pointless.

COMMUNITY ALERT

Gardaí in Enniscrone would like to assure everyone that during these difficult times there are additional Gardaí working out of Enniscrone Garda station. Patrols will continue to be conducted and members will be providing a 24-hour service.

I would ask that you would be mindful of elderly/vulnerable people who may need extra assistance during this time. If we can assist in any way with them please don’t hesitate to contact us. Garda mobile phone no is 086 8578263 and Ballymote station is 071 9189500.
